Default RPM rant

Why do so many people say RPMs ? Revolutions Per Minutes makes no sense ! We are supposed to be car people, get it right ! Or maybe I should switch to decaf.

You're right - it is RPM . . . and you should switch back to decaf

Does "irregardless", or "very bizzare", bother anyone?

How about, "I can't here you", or "good company, I like there products".

Seeing things like that, always annoys the heck outta me.

I understand, and as a car guy I try to use the proper terms. I gave up trying to coach folks with the right terms a long time ago, and it's not worth worring about

On CF forum there is a large mix between enthusiasts vs owners, some who can pull an engine, while others can't pull a spark plug. When you have that wide of a knowledge gap it gets interesting.

In the end, I try to be as helpful as I can no matter the terms or skill level a person has. We don't want to hijack a thread of someone who needs help or has a question because they use the wrong terms or spelling.

....and FWIW, auto correct and fat fingers don't help either

I grew up working on cars and I've used the term "motor" all my life, though I also interchangeably use the term "engine". I'm also retired from working in the tech industry for 37 years and in the case of electric motors I'd never use the term "engine" when talking about one. Also, I was a software programmer and in software the term "engine" can mean a subsystem or package that drives particular functions of a system. Maybe it's a cultural difference depending on what part of the country someone is in?

Nope, nope, this stuff is important.

How about the commonly, and incorrectly, used expression, "volts through it"....such as, "are you sure I can put 5 volts through it without any damage?"

Their, I sed it, I feel better now. This thread has been a catharsis, thanks Patsgarage!

How about "I don't know how it works but, it's not the volts that kill ya, it's the amps!".
