I was going to change the oil in my 2005. It will be the first time I have done this. I have my PF46 Delco filter and the Mobil One oil. But I was wondering how tight do I should torque the oil pan bolt. I have always just done it by how it feels. But since this car is more critical to me........You know what I mean? So, I was wondering if any of you torque your oil pan bolt. If you do, how tight should I tighten mine? Thanks.

I have been changing my oil for over thirty years and have yet to torque an oil pan drain bolt.....including the Vette.

Technically.....yes.....you should use the recommended torque setting. That being said, I've really only used my torque wrench to tighten lug nuts when changing wheels.

My motorcycle has an aluminum oil pan and after 13 years of changing oil at least twice a year the threads finally broke loose. Took it in and the dealer installed a steel helicoil.

Did my first oil change on the weekend with a buddy and he googled the spec for torquing the oil plug. I would have never even thought of it.

45 years of DIY oil changes has calibrated my wrist quite nicely without need of a torque wrench.

If you don't torque it down, it will come out. If you're asking about using a torque wrench on it - no need. It only needs to be 15-20ft lbs. So just snug it down.

That drain plug is no less or no more important than the drain plug on any other car. Snug it so it doesn't leak.

The owner's manual doesn't say what type of oil filter or how much oil it takes. But I think this is what people on here told me a while back so I was double checking to make sure. But thanks anyway.

I looked at several other posts on here and they all say that is the right oil filter. It replaces the UPF44. So, I'll use that one. Thanks for all the help, guys. I appreciate it.

Yes: I always use a torque wrench, except for screws.

The PF44 was obsoleted and replaced by the PF46 pretty close to the time the MY2005 vette was introduced. Very doubtful you could find one still sitting on a retail shelf anywhere at this late date. The UPF44 is the premium gold Delco filter and is still available and of course still fits MY2005 & 06 LS2s. MY2007 LS2 was revised to accept the 48 series filters only.

Your statement is not quite correct. The PF44 standard filter was replaced by the PF46 standard filter. The UPF44 is still available as Delco's premium Gold Ultraguard filter. The UPF44 was not replaced by the PF46.
