Looking at an 81 tomorrow!
Hi everyone,
I'm going to look at an 81 Vette this weekend and would like some opinions. This Vette has experienced some level of restoration part of which included some engine upgrades, a paint job (six months old), added hood scoop (the only thing I'm really not crazy about but not a deal killer). It's has a 350/ Turbo 350 trans, Holley 750 double pump carb, aluminum intake, aluminum billet pullies, aluminum radiator and transmission cooler. It also has an MSD ignition system, air shocks and a 6 link rear end according to the previous owner.
If I get this car it will be a weekend warrior for my 14 year old son and I to cruise around in. Being an old guy I'm probably going to start de-tuning the engine somewhat with a smaller carb. etc. to make it a little more docile.
Do any of you see any issues at a glance that I should be concerned about. I know the pics aren't great but I was hoping there was enough detail to throw any red flags.
Thanks a ton, Dega

The key to a completely modified car like this is the price, assuming no major problems one would have to see in person.

Also, I'm not a big fan of anything over 79 since it came with 85MPH speedo and instrument cluster is not very attractive.

it depends on where your going to use the car. as it is, it won't pass any kind of inspection (if needed), your state may allow you to register it as and antique and get away with it, you may want to check into it.

The one "issue" I can see is that the heater core has been bypassed, so I assume that the heater core probably leaks. If you dont want heat, then its no problem.
Things I dont like are the recessed headlights and the wheels. I have nothing against a modified car, but this car just looks a little worn [maybe the new paint isnt showing well in the photos?].
When you do go, take pictures of the 6 link rear, and the interior, and please show us before you talk money. If not, hey you dont have to answer to us about your affairs, but we'd all love to help you get the most car for your hard earned money.

If you are really interested in the car I would check for RUST in the frame/windshield/door hinge areas. If its rusty walk away.
Don't waste your time and money fixing a rotten car.( I see it alot up here in the Great White North.
Judging by the pictures its in the $5000-$7500 price range. There are hundreds of C3's out there 4sale take your time a pick a good one
Good luck shopping.

just make sure you get rid of that rubber fuel line going to the carb before the thing burns to the ground
I'd be interested in seeing the 6 link suspension in the rear. I'm surprised there hasn't been a popular (cost effective) rear end mod for these cars, other than for racing. Guess the demand isn't there.
Good luck.

I read somewhere that a 6 link wasn't even available for these C3's. i can't find it now.
