Let say you were considering buying a car with an LS7 engine. Of course you would buy it if the price were low enough. But would the valve issue keep you from buying one at today's prices?

Depends on mileage really. If you find a very low mileage car with an owner that claims the car was not tracked at all or not much, and the car fax matches the low miles then why not. But if its higher mileage and looks like it was beaten, then I would pass. There are so many almost new-used Z06's out there just hanging out in garages. Some of them will be forsale soon Im sure. But I would wait for the low mileage ones.

One other thing to consider is that you can always change the parts that could go bad before they do and save money and damage before it all goes boom?>

well -- I dunno if I can chime in since I already own an 08 Z06 (original owner -- 23K miles so far)

But if I was really that worried, and the rest of the car checked out -- I'd bite only if the price was maybe 1500-2000 under what's fair. If I had concrete plans to pull the heads and have them worked.

I'm near the end of my warranty -- and don't exactly have 3K just laying around to blow on head work.

I am not too concerned about the valve issue. I would buy an LS7 car.

I don't really know the mileage distribution of the failures. There is a thread in the Z06 forum about a guy looking for an LS7 because he had a failure at low mileage.

There are a number of Z06s out there will well over 100000 miles. The valve failures have affected a very low percentage of the cars.

I have a 2012 z06 16700 miles and a warranty will purchase an extended warranty from form dealer near end of 36/36. I also owned a 2009 with 24000 miles on it.

I suppose if I was in the market for one, found a smokin deal and paranoid about the valves I would pull the heads and send them to Richard at WCCH for an upgrade. It's only 6-8hrs labor (depending on how slow you work) to R&R the heads and a very easy job to do in your garage.

From what I've read it's been reported on all model years.

I've an '08 w/ 28K, reuse to let the issue spoil an otherwise ideal car.
OTOH I've a GMPP & when it runs its course I'll probably turn the car over. Reluctantly, too.

IF I were in the market for a preowned Z06 if I'd a seller claiming the heads were redone?
It'd all but cinch the deal.

I started my search for a vette looking for a used model. I hadnt owned one for almost ten years. I spent a lot of time reading around here, and looking at used cars on local ots as well as on the national sites. In the end, with prices what they were on used, my expectations, and budget not truly being na issue, I found and purchased a 427 vert.

Prior to doing so, I spent about a month reading the thread over in the Z section. Based upon what I read, it seemed that many instances of failure occurred on cars that spent some time on a track, or were modified. Not all, but many. Since my 427 vert will have neither of those two things occur, I became quite comfortable buying it, and never looked back. If I planned ot mod it, I would have it to one of the guys who address the head issues first. Other than that, rock on. If I break it, so be it.
