Default Original Paper Work???

So I am prepping to remove the body off of a 77 that i have had for a couple of years and finally decided to restore. I pull out the steering colom and stuffed up in between the gauges I find this crumpled up sheet of paper.

I begin unfolding it and start getting excited. This is an old car with no lineage as far as i know its been passed around and never taken care of except for Buba putting his grubby fingers all over it.

So as I am looking it all over the options all look and sound like my vette (I believe to be original) but on the top right what looks like the VIN dose not match. My VIN is 1Z37L7S406804.

Has any thing like this happened to any one else out there??

Dose any one out there have there original paper work and if so do the vin#s match??

Would some input as to if i have found a rare diamond or is this just a random piece of paper to be throw away??

Thanks

I have the original build sheets for both the 74 & the 82, and yes the VIN #'s do match on both builds. I would venture to say, that is not the build sheet for your vehicle, as you can see the difference between the builds,
yours.....6,804 your build sheet....38,177
check the stamp on the engine, RS head pad and see what code and numbers you have there.....good luck

"stuffed btwn the gauges." Maybe the gauge cluster was changed, or even the steering column by a previous owner? Any chance the VIN is hard to read, and you're just reading in incorrectly? I've never examined a build sheet in person, and tried to look at your pics, but I'm not even sure which number was the VIN.

look at post #1, the 3rd pic, top right hand top of sheet is a good closeup of the VIN #, first 7 digits over 6 digits.....the last 5 digits are the build number of the car, that build sheet states 38,177 that year there were 49,213 Corvettes built.

FWIW--I bought a 71 Malibu new. When I removed the rear seat, there were build sheets fom three different cars stuffed behind there.

Default Congratulations!

Congratulations! and you are a lucky person!

Found mine in the dash too, but looked like something the cat ate and then coughed up.

A very nice find and in great shape! Its unfortunate that it doesn't match up for you but please do not discard!

So as I am looking it all over the options all look and sound like my vette (I believe to be original) but on the top right what looks like the VIN does not match. My VIN is 1Z37L7S 406804.
The buildsheet shows 38177 while your VIN is 6804. That sometime between builds. Note in the upper right hand corner the digits 06-04. This is the expected date assembly of the body would begin which is probably dramatically different from your build date (trim tag).

Does any one out there have there original paper work and if so do the vin#s match??
This is a most unusual find and most cases I've heard, the documents and vehicle VIN reconcile. We could speculate many different scenarios how this happened as suggested above. It is a 77 buildsheet, L48 M20.

Would some input as to if i have found a rare diamond or is this just a random piece of paper to be throw away??
I collect these and have helped many an owner decipher their buildsheets. I've included a link to a recent article published in the Corvette Restorer but before discarding, I would take it off your hands and share its history with others.

Have you guys found many build sheets on the fuel tank? I haven't dropped my tank or lifted the body to look yet but would LOVE to find a build sheet on my '69

you have a very rare car, based on the build sheet. In '77 Hugh Heffner ordered it special. That is why it sayx "XXX Customer Order". ;-)
