Default several serious reasons the C7 is inadequate

1- the jump from C5 to C6 was a 50 hp increase!! the C6 to C7 is 14? isnt that a K&N filter on the LS3? they say the torque is like the LS7 at low rpms..will have to see how relevant that is.

2- the base C6 was as fast as the previous Z06!! The C7 will weigh more than the C6 Z06 and have 50 hp less power....is that supposed to be exciting? Im not saying the base C7 should be a C6 ZR1..but its been 8 years!!! The C7 should be breaking the C6's records in a big way!

3- when the C6 came out with 400hp, it had *100HP* more than the brand new mustang...the C7 with 450HP isnt doing anything special..thats just average now for sports cars

4- this car needs to be in the solid mid 11's with a mid to low 3 second 0-60 to be exciting, especially at $59 grand.

5- this car has no links to the stingray..calling it that is ridiculous...it doesnt have the curves and it doesnt have the mystery

Heres what the C7 SHOULD have been:

200 lbs lighter..figure it out GM
better seats and a somewhat nicer interior
535 hp
11.4 quarter mile, 3.4s 0-60
LED headlights (not LED DRL's)
NOT a camaro rear end

$55000 base model with those specs

You have zero performance numbers... most of your argument is invalid

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I couldn't disagree with you more. American engineering is alive and well!

yes I do. gms stingray website says 3.9s 0-60. unless you think the 7 speed manual is going to do what it did for the porsche 911 turbo and turn 500 hp into 10 seconds..

And it wasn't until 2008 with the LS3 that the base c6 had 02-04 LS6 performance. That was three years after the C6 was released. The C7 is no C6 Z06 LS7, nor was intended to be I think. You get what you pay for.

Cars with those performance numbers are all 6 figure cars. Your post is totally unrealistic.

They made the Grand Sport their performance target, I'm sure this car will exceed that. Makes it easy to charge $55k for the base car.

lol looks like i hit a nerve..im an 09 C6 owner and I would LOVE to have the C7 eating away at my brain and forcing me to buy one...but this reveal is nowhere near the experience of the first time I ran into the C6 (visually or spec wise)...

maybe i will be proven wrong with the road tests come out..i hope so..

So a 55k car is suppose to one up a car that cost 75k right now on dealer lots? The LS2 C6 did not out perform the C5Z and when it eventually caught up, the prices were the same. This car at $8k less than a GS will put it to shame with all performance pieces being better.

He's also wrong about the base C6 being as fast as a base C5Z.

Just let it happen...

I think it should be 600HP, weigh 2600lbs and be $45k. I mean why not! And while we're at it I think a MacBook Pro Retina should be $900 and have twice the RAM and clock speed and I think a 4500 sq ft apartment in Manhattan should be $700k...

I think the C7 sounds great... There comes a point where you need to put *exponentially more* money into getting any lighter or getting any more HP. We (all cars, not just the Vette), are right there at that point. In other words, you gotta pay to play.

"Demanding" lighter *and* more HP *and* cheaper is ridiculously unrealistic.

But hey, the other alternative is to just go buy the brand new car that performs better for less money. Let everyone know when you find it

It does NOT have Camaro tail lights. I own a Grand Sport 4LT and a Camaro ZL1 and I am here to tell you those tail lights are not even close to Camaro. It is the one thing many have latched on too in order to spew their discontent for a car they didn't like anyway. Find another reason to spread your BS!

This car is in line with a 911 and that is a good market for GM.
When they come out with a Z06 or a ZR1 you will have your numbers.

The only connection the 2014 Corvette has to the 1953 model is they both have two seats and four wheels.

So what.

Valid points, but I wonder how much they make a difference to the general consuming public of a mass produced vehicle.

Not only that but he's fixed on horsepower numbers. It is a common agreement here on the forum that the initial C6 was NOT quicker than a C5Z06 and even the engineers stated the goal was to be within 75% of the C5Z's performance abilities for a base C6.

Tadge just got through saying the prototype car was faster around their track than a grandsport with all the performance boxes checked. Previous C6 was 190mph top speed, this one will be higher. Seven speed gearbox, lighter, five different driver modes.

A significant bump in torque. DI is new territory for Corvette, the tweaks and bumps will come.....why lay all the cards out on the table up front? Why are we overlooking all the new tech folded into this engine because it's shy of your expected output? They had to do something different with the back end, it's been the same slab with four lights since the C5.

What more are you wanting from the base model? Where on the street are you going to use more than what they are giving you for now? You can't please everyone, your complaints would be legit if you weren't hung up on hp numbers for the sake of a pissing match. Drive the car.....

the 2013 mustang GT500 msrp is $54k and it has 662hp with an 11.4s 1/4 mile..again..the C7 should have at least 500hp in the base model. yes its not a corvette, but shouldnt the new corvette at least be raising the bar A LITTLE out there?

shouldnt it be faster than the latest mustang like it was before?

Performance numbers are one thing....that awful Camaro rear end is quite another...The new Vette is a reason for better designers to get busy and create some attractive body panels..could actually help the aftermarket body panel busienss being so ugly,,,, expecially the rear!

For what it is, I'm not as against the front of it as I thought I would be....but it does seem to have a total lack of design integration as a whole theme...Arrdvark and Camels come to mind, certainly not Pinninfarina!

I'm keeping my C5.....and in a few years I'm sure its going to cost a boatload of mony to keep going...but if this is the alternative to go newer, NO THANKS, I'll keep my oldster running....
