1989 corvette with a carbureted engine.
Is anyone else running this? I just got my vette today and was wandering if this is a common mod to do. I have a 650 holley 4 barrel carburetor hooked up under the hood. Along with a TCL on the transmission.

Kind of looks like an edel. carb to me. The distributor (HEI) does not seem to have a vacuum can on it?? Maybe it is on the other side. You really should be using a pre computer controlled vacuum advance distributor with the carb set up if your HEI is not one. Some guys use the computer HEI and not sure how that can give decent performance. The 4309 Mallory FPR is a good unit but I know there are a few on thi s forum that say that if you still have the high pressure in tank pump the 4309 may not handle the excessive pressure for very long. I have the 4309 FPR on my 84 but my stock pump only puts out 14 psi.

The picture is from a couple of years ago.
I have a vacuum advance distributor on it now, although it ran fine with the old one.
Gas mileage averaged about 25 mpg highway and the engine seemed to pull pretty good with the stock HEI.
I don't race (street or track) so there wouldn't be any way for me to compare the difference between the two
distributors and how they work.

Sorry about the mis-post Keystring. Glad to hear you have a vac. advance HEI now, am sure it works better than the old computer control unit. The Mallory 4309 unit is a quality one and am glad to hear it works well on your set up. 25 MPG is great for a carbed set up. My carbed 84 got 23 MPG on my last 600 mile road trip. I am going to try a quadrajet carb for a little better performance and mileage than my 600 Edel. Nice to hear another happy carb conversion story.
