Default Aftermarket stereo

I have a 99 coupe, and the stereo kinda sucks, it won't pick up stations from more than 10 miles away. An thinking about an aftermarket stereo. Just wondering what the best kind would be. Thanks.

Next week I'm installing a Alpine BT head unit, Rockford Fosgate P1000X5D 1000 Watt Class D 5 Channel amplifier, Alpine R 6.5" components up front, Alpine R 6.5 in the rear and a 12" JL sub. Will be a nice improvement.

Bought the head unit from Crutchfield and the rest from Amazon at a great deal.

I would go with the pioneer components in the front and 6.5 pioneers in the rear. The new alpine type r's are crap compared to what they used to be.

are you serious?
Your recommending Pioneer components?
That would be last thing I would recommend even on price.

yes that is exactly what I would do two 5 1/4 pioneer components in each door and 6 1/2 coaxial pioneers in the rear.

I put the two 5 1/4 in each door because there was plenty of room in there coming from the factory setup. I chose the pioneers because I had alpines type r's in my s2000 and they were absolute junk because of the way that the cones were made. With the 5 1/4 components from pioneer in the front there is plenty of mid to low base while still having very clear and bright tweeters. I have the 4 5 1/4 components running to a kicker 1000.5 ix that 65 rms to the fronts and the rear 6.5 which for my goals for the car was more than enough. I also get speakers at cost from work so the price never sways my decision since I get them all cheap.

ok then as long as your happy thats all that matters. I would never recommend a setup like this but its your car.

However I am not sure why you would run 6 speakers( 2 sets of components and a rear set of coax) off a 5 channel amp

because two 5 1/4 fit in the door as opposed to one 6 1/2 which will let me crank it up a little more while still giving a nice clear sound. The 5 1/4 are only 180 peak W where the 6 1/2's are 260ish making it not really matter once I hooked it up to the amp. The front components are run off the same wire that goes to the amp if that makes sence( I just soddered two more speaker wires off that that go to the crossovers and back to the tweeters and speakers).

It's always nice to see someone post something constructive. Too often people here criticize others choices even when their option isn't asked.

Props to you.

If you took what I said as criticizing you or trying to be little you that is not what I meant. I was just letting you know that from personal experience I don't like them you may be different. Whatever you put in will make a world of a difference compared to the blows system.

No issues with what was posted. I'm not huge into sound systems anymore. Just looking for something decent. I agree the stock Bose is junk.

From what you described, you may have a problem with your antenna. You should get reception better than 10 miles.

That being said, the OEM Bose system in these cars sucks (IMO) and the best fix is to replace it. It's the first significant mod I did and the best to date. Like others have said, Call Dennis. Good prices and a wealth of experience (paticularly with these cars).

The bose set up sucks.. If you are going to spend anytime in your car I would say drop the coin and invest in some quality components..

1. Send your console to double D for the mod.
2. Tell Dennis@ double D you know ICULUKN-C5 from Phoenix and he will get you the best price...LOL
3. Put a quality 6.5" component in the door and sub in the back center well. I personally like Focal, but to each their own.
4. get a quality amp. I run the JL HD series, but Arc makes some great stuff in a small package.
5. Enjoy your new tunes with the roof off.
