Default Corvette Dealer in Columbia totally screwed me.

So, I just return from Korea and take my vette out of storage. I drop it off at the dealer for them to look over everything before I go on a long trip. I call them today to see if it is ready and this is what I am told:
We're very sorry, but we locked your keys in the car and had to break your driver side window to get in the car.

Now they are saying that it will not be ready until the 8th. I have to drive to Fort Rucker AL to report to the Army Warrant Officer before the 8th. I can not believe they did not even call me before the decided to break into the car. Now I have to figure out how to get to the course on time, which may mean having to get a rental.

How could a Chevy dealer not be able to cut a key?

Find another dealer!!!

1) I would have thought they would have called you to find if you had a duplicate key fob.

2) If not, they could cut a manual key via your VIN and get access to the car via the trunk/rear hatch.

Totally unacceptable.

What a load of ****. Didnt even have the decency to call and ask if you have a spare key before shattering your window? That is one of the most dumb things i've seen a dealership do.

Where is Columbia, so I can avoid it? I don't see a city name in your profile so I can't guess.

I would tell then to supply you with your car with a window, or a rental car for the time you are going to need it. Their problem to correct the situation. Absurd they broke your window. I agree they could've cut a key or got a locksmith.

Something is not right here, I would call the GM Customer Rep and talk to them, no way they can't make a key for the car, and besides why would replacing the window glass take more than one day. Go down there and demand they pay for the rental and also to transport your car when it is fixed. Something does not sound right about this.

I'm sure they don't have the glass on hand.

Explain your situation to the dealer ASAP.

They should make it right by giving you a no-charge rental for as long as you need it!! Unlimited miles of course.

And I'd want to inspect the damage, because their story is, um, difficult to believe.

My local auto glass shop can have almost any auto door or windshield glass with in 24 hours so if they broke the glass on Wednesday the car should be ready on Friday.

I have never heard of anything so ridiculous. They definitely should have called you before doing ANYTHING to your car. You could have had a second FOB.

I think they might have broken it another way and were to embarrassed to admit it.

In any case, it is their responsibility to see that you have a rental at their expense for as long as you need it.
