Default talked with a tech at ferrari

i was working at the ferrari dealer today and had a chance to talk with a tech and the first thing i mention was guide wear. well he acted like what the hell is that and he said not on these cars which i thought some ferrari's did? the only thing he told me was make sure i use a really good oil. i told him i had a z. i also took notice some fairly new ferrari's had a little blue smoke on start up and the oldest ferrari they had was a 09. i'm going to pick up some 0-30 german castrol.

I have never seen nor heard of a Ferrari with 25k miles.

LOL, great thread

In all seriousness I have a few friends with these cars and the service record costs that make even a NEW MOTOR for your Z06 seem like a bargain.

One Ferrari Maranello I know of with roughly 50K miles on it has racked up approximately $25K in service costs....not including tires or oil changes. The guy showed me the spreadsheet!

You guys are very funny. My 05 F430 has over 18K on it and I drive it all the time. The newer models with chain driven cam will run for a very long time and need a $1K service each year and $3K every 3.

There are plenty of Vetts that sit in the garage driven only on the right sunny days.

I will not argue that the Ferrari can get very expensive to fix if something big goes wrong, but it is well worth the price of admission.

I am very happy with my 2012 Z07 though, which is my first Vett and have put 6K on it since getting it in April. It's a mighty fine car, but it aint no Ferrari ........Steve

nope... unless you were in the upper RPM it felt like a turd. Remind me of a honda.

granted it was fantastic otherwise but no power down low and that transmission jerked like a mother

Then you drove one with something wrong with it. I've gotten to drive several and they were anything but slow in any rpm range. I didn't know a 483hp Ferrari was comparable to a 150hp Honda in ANY aspect.

It was the flappy paddle gearbox, i hated it. The honda feeling was just the fact to feel fast you had to rev the **** out of it. It was at a high end dealership being sold so I dont know if there was somethign wrong with it. I took it 0-120 or so and after about 45 mph or so it started to feel nice full beans.

That is the superior transmission in the F cars. No matter the transmission almost 500 horsepower is no slouch.

Shrug, the Z has so much more torque. Until youre really moving HP isn't that impressive.

Im not a fan of screaming around at 9000 rpm to feel like im going anywhere. I will say though it was exciting though, just not my cup of tea. I liked the v10 R8 much better.

Both the Z and F do the same thing just in a different way. The Z is a loafer with lots of torque and that can be fun. The Ferrari is a pure HP engine and needs/wants to be spun up and that also can be a lot of fun.

The throttle response on the F car kills the Z and head to head aint no slower. As for the transmission I like the F1 bump in the *** each time you flick upshift at redline. It makes me happy. Might have been something wrong with the one you were in since I find the F1 to work very well........Steve

I had the occasion to be able to drive both an F430 and an F599 (both w/paddle-shifters).
Each was fast, responsive, snappy, etc. Awesome machines...
