2012/2013 Seat Swap ???
At an event at the NCM last year I was able to compare the seats in a 2012 GS convertible with those in my 2011 and I really want the new seats.
However, the guys from the Assembly Plant stated that if you totally swapped the seats (frames, electrics, etc.) rather than pulling the old seats out and removing/replacing the seat covers and foam it would necessitate the computer (BCM?) having to be reprogrammed.
Can anyone verify if this is really true and what the issue is? I believe that we were told it was a safety issue, perhaps to do with the weight sensors.

I've yet to see a simple absolute definitive answer to your question.
Anyway, from what I've read, I would be skeptical if someone told you it is a simple plug-and-play swap.
Suggestion: Forget the seat swap. Instead, upgrade your existing seats to better than the 2012 seats.
For starters, take a look at the 2012 Seat Conversion Kit. Links below also discuss other upgrades.
...For guaranteed compatibility and reasonable cost, IMO your best bet is to upgrade your existing seats to your exact specs -- with new foam, rebuild kit, new leather/color combo, and whatever else you want.
DIY or go to a restoration/upholstery shop.
Of course research before you decide. Lots of related threads, like these:

There have been a few people who have done the conversion. Parts taxi offers everything you need I believe.

If you swap the seats out completely for a new seat of seats and tracks you will have to reprogram the BCM to recognize the different seat memory module. You can avoid that by swapping the module. Haven't seen much benefit to swapping seats as the new wings look different but they really don't provide any better lateral support at the shoulder level than the previous seats. They don't wrap around the shoulders and prevent the upper body from moving from side to side.

Understand that there are several vendors who offer quality kits to allow you to swap foam and seat covers to change from a 2011 seat to a 2012/2013. I've bought from both GM PartsHouse and Parts Taxi and can attest to the quality of their kits.
However, a buddy of mine was able to recently score two complete sets of 2012 Z06 seats for considerably less than the price of the kits which is what caused the question.
I'm still trying to understand the difference between the 2011 seat and the 2012 which according to what I heard at the NCM and is posted by Bill Dearborn, Tech Contributor, that you have to reprogram the BCM because of different seat modules. For instance, would a Tech II programmer work for this?

Lost my 2011GS replaced with 2012 GS and LOVE the seats, they are much more comforable. Cant asnwer for the track use but its comfortable.. Had my upholstery guy pad the FREAKIN FAKE elbow rests on the door panels and that is simply a great upgrade, door panels have to come off and its not easy to reinstall but its something GM should have done.

GM has pads on the 2013 - at least on the 4LT/1SC/3ZR/3LZ. Down South Vettes also has them.

I just put in Caravaggio seats. My new 2013 recognized the new/different memory module immediately. I had to reset the settings but that was as simple as holding down the #1 memory button on the door panel for 3 seconds.
