Heavily Modded Z06 or Stock ZR1
I'm looking at sending my 2009 Z06 off to one of the popular tuners for some heavy engine mods; for example Livernois Stage 3 setup. But recently a chevy dealer close to me got in a 2010 ZR1 with low miles and they're only asking $78,000. I'm torn with financing being as low as it is now, wether to spend the $13,000 with motor mods, or just trade in on the stock ZR1. Would appreciate any kind of feedback on this. THANKS!

Just from what I've seen on the for sale section here and other places, I'd go zr1. A modded z06 is only worth what a stock z06 is worth. You might get pennies to the dollar for mods with the right buyer.. A zr1 will retain value better in shirt term and longer term

I'd lean towards the Z06 (lighter, N/A and won't have the heat soak from actually running it hard). Having a package installed by a reputable manufacturer with receipts is a strong selling point, even better if you have them work over the heads (and document the project); which would command some value over a standard Z versus the shadetree DIY'er who ordered parts from a catalog - but yeah, you're still taking a substantial loss.
I also agree that trading in for the ZR1 is a better choice from a resale point of view down the road, and there are a host of extras like carbon ceramic brakes, launch control, magnetic ride control, way more power, Big Dog status, etc.
So perhaps it should boil down to which car turns you on more: the one in your garage, or the ZR1? When you're laying in bed tonight, staring at the ceiling... I think you'll find you keep thinking about one car in particular: there's your answer.

it depends. for resale, the zr1 is a no brainer. if you are looking for the fastest track weapon, then a stage II katech car with an ARE dry sump and coil overs will be faster lap after lap. but you have no GM warranty at that point....

Banned Scam/Spammer
Just my 2 cents worth, modded Z06 if you wanna beat on it and have fun. If you wanna leave da ZR1 in the garage and save it for someone else in 15 years then get the ZR1.
Drive your cars and enjoy them. Life is too short. I bought my Z06 with 4223 miles and today I have 14758. I drive it every chance I get, might be snowing soon so then it goes to sleep.

Modded Z06 no brainer if you are going to get into tracking, it would be faster, better handling, no blower heat soak issues and loss of power. For resale and hop in and street drive get a ZR1. Have fun

you failed to mention the money difference, we talking 20k or 40k difference?? if you're modding cost 13k, but the upgrade is 40k, 27k difference, well that's a huge chunk but if money doesn't matter.........???

The suspension, the carbon brakes, better diff/trans/axles, one of the best OE built bottom ends, the ability to get 100rwhp with hardly any investment, the rarity and the list can go on. It's an awesome car bro.
