Default brake fluid for 62 manual brakes

in the servicing guide it says we should use GM hydraulic brake fluid, Super # 11. It doesn't exist down here. What can I use? It says to fill about 1/2 to 1 inch from top. Thank you for the help joe

Any current ordinary DOT3 or DOT4 brake fluid will work just fine, unless the car has been changed over to DOT5 silicone fluid.

Thank you, good to know I don't have to go searching for brake fluid. Joe

Joe, heed John's caution - be sure you know if your car has DOT 3/4, or DOT 5 now, before adding more. The two types should not be mixed.

Joe, here's how to determine what type of brake fluid is in the car now:

1. Take a flluid sample (an ounce or two) from the master cylinder reservoir and put it in a small glass jar.

2. Add an equal amount of water to the fluid in the jar.

3. Cap the jar and shake thoroughly, and leave it on the bench for a few minutes.

4. If the fluid remains homogeneous (all one color, with no layering), it's DOT3/DOT4.

5. If a phase separation occurs in the fluid resulting in two distinct layers that are different colors, it's DOT5 silicone fluid.

Use whichever fluid the test indicates - DO NOT mix the two types of fluid.
