I am curious about the purpose of those also. They aren't on some of the early spy photos like the winter test shots.
An Olds Aurora I owned had rear fog lights (amber colored) and they were great if a car was riding your bumper at night, they were obviously pretty bright. I hadn't thought about those in years until I was driving behind a late model GM SUV on the way to work Monday morning in very dense fog, its rear lights were nearly invisible except when he hit his brakes. My nomination for idiot driver of the morning was in a white minivan which was running on a 55 MPH 2 lane state highway and had no lights on, I guess she was in stealth mode

I think those may be sensor attachment points, or possibly fuel tank drains like mentioned above. They had red plastic caps over them. They might be hook up points for those large bicycle type sensor wheels you often see attached to the rear of cars for testing.
Keep your eyes peeled for a whole new batch of photos, several from the front at close range, and one that shows the passenger seat back. They have been released to several sites, but I don't know where they'll show up first. I think they are the best ones I've seen anywhere.
