Default Flag emblems

I made an intro this morning......
I just bought a '63 convert. The previous owner filled in the holes in the front fenders for the flag emblems.
Does anyone know exactly where and how I can re-install them.
I know I will have to drill some holes but I want them positioned correctly and attached securely.

Thanks in advance.

You should be able to look on the back side and see where the holes were. Probably can drill them from the inside. (There are two different stud spacings on the thin and thick emblem studs. Be sure which yours is.) If your car is already painted, tape off the outside so the drill doesn't flake the paint.

Welcome and congratulations!

I'll put this out there but I can't recall if 1963 and my 65 will be identical.

I've started out by masking the area where I need to drill holes for the emblem. For some reason it doesn't look exactly like the photo 62jeff posted.
Can anyone tell me if the '63 and '65 fenders are identical?
Thanks

OK
I just went out to the garage and measured my VERY original '63.

1 1/2 inches to the bottom of the V, just like Jeff's picture.
However, they are centered 15 inches forward of the fender edge.

FWIW..........one is 14 7/8 the other is 15 1/8. This shows the inconsistency in typical factory production done 49 years ago.

just measured, same on my '65, likely the '63 / '64 difference is because of the side vent centres

Fantastic! Thanks. I'm glad I didn't start drilling holes yet.
Will include pictures when I'm done.
Thanks Gents.

Success. The drivers side was a breeze but the passenger side was a bitch. Had to pull the battery after I dropped the nut. Then the space between the blower motor and the emblem tab was tight. After about an hour, finally got the nut started and tightened it with an open-end wrench. Thanks again for your help. Here are some pics:
Yes, my garage is carpeted

I'm not sure why the plates are so bright. Maybe because they are new. At least it hides the plate number

I decided to drill and install those stinkin' badges on my car once before. Screwed 'em up too by putting one higher than the other. Bugged me then but was easier just to let it go, another reminder not to take it too seriously. This is all about the fun, after all. If you're chasing perfection you have no business being around Corvettes (IMHO) or if you are, you are doomed to a hobby of misery.

Al... you, Rob and I should do a C2 convertible cruise some time this fall. It's our favourite time for cruising wine country.

Whadaya say Rob.... in???

Believe me, I'm no perfectionist. I enjoy driving the car more than working on it. I'd be up for a C2 cruise this fall!

65's are the same.... best off doing it from underneath (on lift) with out the splash shield... trust me - just did it last weekend on my 65......
