I bet CFI owners left keys in the ignition for them to be taken. I've talked to a lot of previous 84 owners and they told me when they were new they were lemons. I guess after all recalls, bugs fixed and DIY they work fine.

Some of those years were record production numbers so the fact that a ton of 84's went missing doesn't surprise me.

Plus pretty much all of those cars had the same crappy Saginaw steering column that you could jack and hotwire with a screwdriver. VATS stopped all of that...in what? 1987/88 or so?

I recall the Camaros at the time were stolen even more frequently until VATS.

I guess my 88 is safe, wait where are my keys? Probably where I left them in the ignition.

Mine are in the ignition too - can't even get the cheap labor that walks through the neighborhood to look at it. Now, my bicycle, that's another story.

About the only thing "The Club" would be good for would be for beating the car thief to death

Those numbers are interesting. I had no idea that there were that many of them stolen. Several years are 1 in 6 stolen and the '81s were 1 in 5.

The club doesn't work. I had a 95 Impala SS stolen from my driveway a few years ago in Arizona. I had a club on it. They never found the car.

It would be interesting to know how many were stolen by year. Could it be that big percentage of the 84's were stolen in the first year or two because it was a new model?

Just seen a report, most cars stolen have their keys in them.

Now if you want to protect your car to some degree, install a secret inline switch with the fuel pump power. I have done this concept for more than 30 years.

Carjacking and a criminal act in progress are grounds to protect your property and yourself in Florida. I always like walking back to my car prepared.

Other than that they will have to come with a tow truck.

1986, but it's amazing how many VATS protected cars are "stolen".

I remember a few years ago seeing one of those "investigative reports" on car thefts. They showed a steering wheel with The Club attached, and the guy had some special blade on a hacksaw....he was through that wheel in a matter or seconds.

astepup said that

Now days they tow it and its gone in seconds. Who would question a tow truck towing something with the alarm going off?
