Default Corvette Snaps Spot on Top 100 Most Powerful Cars

Number 38, in fact. Whats even more interesting is how many cars on this list use some version of the Corvette powerplant. I guess if you want to make power, the LS really is the best.

Not that impressive IMHO. 38th for the ZR1. The C6Z06 wasn't even close, and the other LS engines wouldn't even be in the top 200.

It's interesting to see how car's compare with rated horsepower but that's about it. Including the Hennessey modified cars was stretching things a bit. If they include a Hennessey modded car why not include a 1,000+ hp Lingenfelter Corvette? Funny how the 2013 naturally aspirated Viper beats the Corvette ZR1 by 2 horsepower. Of course GM didn't build the ZR1 with any thought of retaking the horsepower 'crown' from Viper.

I'll agree with you to a point. Like with Corvette owners in general, I'll venture to say 99% of the owners of these high horsepower cars will never seriously track their car to push the envelope of performance....to utilize all the power they paid for. That being said even for street use a great deal of satisfaction and enjoyment is derived from simply starting, driving and owning a high power, high performance car. Knowing that you're never going to get more than a short, straight line blast in your high power/performance car would be utterly depressing to me but I guess it suffices for the majority.

If you look at what those other cars cost that were put ahead, I think its pretty impressive. I never even heard of some of those cars...

Interesting...ZR1 0-60 in 3.8 sec while GM claims my GS will do it in 3.95 secs.

If you can't get traction, more HP is meaningless.

absolutely right

WOW
i can only imagine the price tag on some of those cars
that GT500 is impressive too

man... i remember the days where if you had 400 it was a bad car
500 was considered so insane
and now-a-days, seems like under 1000hp seems just average

just amazes me that these types of power can be had now-a-days
and yet still achive some decent fuel mileage with creature comforts too

Never under estimate the power of bench racing. I know guys who couldnt tell you where a racetrack was to save their life, but will show up to coffee & cars with their latest dyno sheet. I'll never understand it, and don't necessarily want too. Their money, their business.

On another note.. anybody notice how many cars are in the 550hp range. The first 25 cars on that list. Seems like 600hp is looming as the base measurement for next generation, but there has to be traction concerns about putting this much power down on street tires. Expect AWD to get alot more popular.

AWD is the way to go. Almost all the cars that are quicker than the ZR-1 are AWD (or mid/rear-engined). Even the Porsche Panamera Turbo, weighing 1,000 lbs more, is quicker (0-60 3.4 sec) with 145 less HP.

GM should at least offer an AWD version of the C-7

Agreed. If they want to keep up (and make the vehicle safer to use with so much power) its needed. For the purists and the sake of a low entry price.. make RWD standard. But for those who want max performance & traction.. offer an AWD version.
