I find the title of the story a little lacking since I know of quite a few "1 Percenters" who drive Corvettes!

However, overall it was a good review.

Yep. Which is one of the reasons why I bought a red one. Look at all of the things you get with a Ferrari and then cross-compare them with the Corvette.

1) Brand recognition. (you never have to answer the question, what kinda car is that?)

2) Exotic stying & sex appeal. (Most people think its exotic & really expensive, even if us owners know the real story)

3) Incredible engine sound. (Cant stress how important a great engine/exhaust is to a sports car, it can make or break the experience for so many enthusiasts. Its also the way we recognize a car before ever even seeing it)

3) Racing history.

4) World Class performance.

5) Social status.



About the only place the Vette really fails in comparison, is the lack of high-quality interior. While I think the C6 interior gets pretty much everything right, but the sucky seats. There's absolutely no question that when you sit in a Ferrari, and come back to sit in a Vette.. the two interiors are worlds apart in quality/materials/craftsmanship.

I own a BMW, Lexus and Honda (daughter drives it) and won't even sniff a GM product, that's how historically bad they have been. The Corvette, one of which I just bought, is the only car that I would consider from them.

What I find funny is that many of the parts on your Honda are made in the same plant as some for your BMW.....and in that same factory are parts made for VW, Ford, Nissan, GM, and Subaru. Also to note, they use the same melt mix just a different mold. Same process to mold, test, paint and machine.

I agree with your cross compare, and while i agree that there are areas for improvement in the interior department, everyone that complains about the Corvette interior will NEVER be satisfied, and here's why. IT's NOT A FERRARI! GM is never going to spend the money to hire people to hand stich and assemble 'work of art' level interiors. It's just a core difference between a company who ONLY makes supercars and a company that has a supercar in its lineup. Now, a seperate argument in a different thread could address whether or not a 'ZR-1' level of corvette 'SHOULD' have an Italian level of interior, and i would agree. But, IMO, that is not the core argument of your position.

I have had a Corvette continuosly for 40 years. Thats 28 Corvettes and 27 of them were new. I have been driving them cause I wanted to. And yes there were some years where I was less than happy with the performance. If I had to depend upon Reporters, like these 2 reporters, that have probably driven a couple of Corvettes a couple of times in their lives to let the rest of us know whats what, then no thanks. I will say this. Chevrolet, Start giving your customers what they want, not what you want us to have. Just let us pick our options. And start putting the Automatic or whatever you are going to do to advance todays Automatic into the Higher Performance Corvette. There are a lot of us that desire the performance, we no longer want the clutch, and we are not going to buy again until they do so. Since the younger folks for the most part cant afford the Corvette, then start making the Corvette for the older folks that still can. And I am not knocking the younger folks, If they can afford one, Fine. But most cant.

That's what this country is all about (and something that can't be done in a lot of nations on the planet where life is brutish and short).

And we think F cars and Vettes are both hot.

In Post 13 it briefly mentions stitching. That reminds me, I think to get contrasting stitching on the Corvette, I think you have to go to the 4LT and then there has been an additional charge of 300 or $400. I dont know why there is an additional charge as stitching is stitching. Its all programmed into the computer. My 2012 Equinox has a contrasting stitching and its not listed anywhere as far as an extra charge. Chevrolet, WHY??? ...

I watched the video a couple times. I tried to park any prejudices and opinions I held and listen carefully to what, obviously non-corvette experts said.

Hers is what I heard. Corvette is a fun car to drive, performs at near race car levels but lacks the fine attention to detail of 'super-cars' or even the latest Cadillacs in comparing interiors.

Well, they are right and right again. I pin some of that on GM's best effort at cost containment on the Vette. Kudos to the engineers for their performance advancements. I'll bet it's damn difficult with the bean counters breathing down their necks

I pin some of that on GM trying to make the Corvette all things to all people - a couple, a convertible, a gs coupe, a grand sport convertible, a 427 convertible, a Z06, a ZR1 and throw in the occasional special special package offerings. That's a base price range of $50,000 to $112,000 or 124% spread. You don't see Ferrari offering 7 or 8 models of the 458 with base prices of say $250,000 to $550,000. I'd wager GM trying to satisfy the coupe buyer with enough content at $50,000 is one difficult proposition with the cost of engineering they have put into the entire product line. Then you have the ZR1 buyer who at half the cost of a base, base Ferrari 458 wants to compare their car to the prancing horse. I have heard it said many many times, you get what you pay for - so why are we or anyone else grumbling that the Z car doesn't match up detail to detail with the high ticket super-cars.

Can the Vette be better - I think so. Will the C7 showcase significant improvements, again I think so. Just be careful what you wish for, fine attention to detail COSTS !!!

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the corvette is actually one of the more poorly built GM's these days when it comes to fit/finish. My CTS is light years ahead when it comes to quality. The Vette is good, but their production process is very old now. That's not to say the car isn't bulletproof, just an old build process.
