Default how will our 505hp Z's stack up against the '13 662hp shelby?

Reading up on the new rustang -- looks pretty hot, top speed 200mph plus more HP than the mighty zr1, and No Gas Guzzler tax - same gas mileage as our z06's.

I would imagine its still heavy or heavier than ever.

I been doing a lot of reading on the new Cobra. Tons of crazy technology going on w that thing. I wish our Z's were leaving the factory w a 13lb carbon fiber driveshaft..... My total guess is that the new Cobra will be pretty much exactly as fast as a new Z06. Prob run low 120's mph in the 1/4mi right off the showroom floor. It would be cool if im wrong and they release a 128mph rocket but I highly doubt it.

We'll know in a couple months!! I'm just super excited that competition has forced GM and Ford to come out with these amazing vehicles. That Shelby has 3X the power my 89' 5.0 had when I was in high school!

A lot of horsepower is not effective when it has to move a car that weighs almost 4000 pounds................the Z is still a better car overall.

I love the looks of the Shelby, but it does not look better and def wont perform better than a stock z. Magazines and us here have it trapping what an avg of 125mph? New Shelby won't trap that! I'm sayin 120

Read an article today that said it has cooling issues, (I believe they all do in SC form). IMO 200 MPH top speed is unrealistic. I like the looks, but a Mustang has the aerodynamics of a cinder block. I believe it would take much more power to push that body to 200.

Years ago, at LVMS, I ran a modded 625+ RWHP GT500Kr at LVMS w/ my 1st Z. With just a CAI, a modified stock tune using a Diablo predator, and stock GY Supercar runflats, I beat him consistently by 4 to 5 tenths, (I was running low 12's and he was running mid 12's, (it's a slow track). I don't remember his trap speed but mine was usually about 122. We raced together most of the night. He was running non-runflat GY supercars. I gave up one run by offering to switch lanes and not do a burnout. That was the only race he won against me. He beat me by a hundreth of a second. In short, the new ones don't scare me.

Well my GT500 had a dyno'd 659 rwhp, and it's useless, just didn't hook and I had 325's Dunlop Sportmaxx GT's on custom 3 pc wheels. It 'may' run near a stock Z06 time but it took it 7 years of ' rare and limited' production. ( LOL ) to get there. it's still a heavyweight with 285 tires and traction and launch control will not make it do wonders.........I don't see time differences with the 2009 ZR1 vs. 2010+ cars which have the launch control. Regardless, I sold mine for a Z with no regrets everytime I open the garage..........and a few mods to stay ahead......hello Katech next year

I talked to a guy who was trading his 2011 Shelby in on a new 2012 Z.

His main problem was he could not get it to hook up. All over the road.

I didn't say anything.

I am sure he found out the Z with Gen 2 Goodyears doesn't hook up either.

Aside from that I am sure he is much happier in the Z and a change of tires will help him with the hook up issues.

heavy car with skinny rear tires... It will never hook up without drag radials. Still pretty impressive though.

2013 GT 500 = 5.81lbs./HP
Z = 6.29lbs./HP

Watch out in a straight line if the GT 500 driver knows how to drive and doesn't mash the loud pedal. Our better suspension and lower weight will still hold sway on the road course.

I would love to pick up a new or even used GT500 or even a terminator cobra but I will never sell my z06 so it would just be an addition to the collection. but with that being said I can't wait to see some of these running at the track !

Love the competition, it makes for better faster cars. The C7 will respond.

Get some big meats out back and that 662HP is going to pull like a raped ape!

I think it is a big mystery. People will find out soon enough. The new gearing will probably help traction a ton. Comparing it to the older GT500s that couldn't hook up doesn't make sense to me. Go put some 4.10s in a z06 and see how well it hooks up. The new car has all new gearing to try to get traction down low and make use of the power. That along with a slick TC/launch system should make it a beast in a straight line.

........still never look like a Z........still heavy. People always quote the lightest weight they see, reality, dealers order them loaded up and it's more than the 3850

Z06 has more wow factor. With just a good tire, the new GT500 will be a beast at the drag strip, and retain its warranty. It will be interesting to see how the new 5.8L responds to modifications and bigger blowers, considering it's starting point of 662hp & 630ft-lbs

Seems like with all I read, they left the rods as a weak point. it's still not a Ford GT motor in terms of stout.......that motor has some high quality components and at that price, it better.

What options are you talking about? The samples the automakers give the car magazines are usually well optioned and the reviews of the 2012 GT 500 are consistent with the quoted 3850 lbs.

It's $54K and it gets 5 mpg better than the ZL-1--and its lighter. What's not to like?
