The center ribs on both of my rear tires have worn down to the cord.

The rest of the tire is showing normal wear and is not even close to the wear bars.

I am meticulous about tire pressure and know that they have never been over or under inflated.

No burnouts on these high dollar tires.

Anyone else have/had this issue?

Sounds like over pressure.
Meticulous okay, but at what pressure do you keep them?

That is what it sounds like - don't know how it would happen other than that. Would be interesting to hear what pressure you run in the tires.

I'm curious.....how many miles do you have on them? Also what pressure do you run and are they on factory wheels?

58 psi what the max says to run.




























j/k......I always keep them at 28-30 psi cold.

Pressure: see above

Miles: around 12,000

Wheels: factory wagons (well OK they are chromed but GM wheels).

Oh and before anybody ask: 275/40ZR18

Maybe your pressure gauge in wrong.(Broken) Maybe compare to another gauge.

Have had 2 sets of rear tires and both did the same thing. Search the forum, I found info stating that lots of people have had the same problem and Michelin is aware of it.

I have 3 Longacre guages, one in each car and one in the garage. All read the same.

I rechecked and yes you have the "Plus" version so that problem was supposed to be taken care of with the Plus models. My previous "Plus" set wore out early too; just like the first set of non-Plus models. If you can return to where you got them, Michelin has a 45,000 mile unlimited warranty on the tire. On my set they adjusted a new set and was just a few bucks to replace them. If necessary go to Michelin's site and download a copy of the warranty for this tire. It's not the same as nearly all their other tires.

The tire dealer I bought these from originally retired (no pun intended) and closed up shop. I will look for another dealer and hope for the best.


Would like to hear if any others had any success getting these replaced!

Just wanting to know if I am going to have to fight them to get them replaced.

You can try talking to Michelin customer service with a copy of the warranty and your sales invoice. They may be able to point you to a dealer and pre-authorized the adjustment.

Discount Tire/America's Tire comes highly recommended.

So normal pressure, front tire only from the looks of the size. Doesn't look like you have the wrong tire size for rim, I think the pressure is a little to high, if 59 psi cold when it heats up, it can be over 61 to 62. Could be the Michelin A/S Plus ZP rubber compound in the center is a softer rubber maybe.. This is a good one.

I found on my previous PS A/T's that the centers wore early. Thought it was just me.

I recently noticed the exact same problem with mine, although it hadn't progressed to the point that the center rib was down to the cord. I run mine religiously at 30 psi cold, but am going to drop them to 28 now. Otherwise, there's very little wear on the rest of the tires. The front tires do not show this same type of wear.

That's correct on both my sets, the front's wore perfectly reaching around 25k most I got was 30k on the fronts, yet the rear's wore unusually fast marginal around 18k - smooth spots by 20k, and I drive conservatively.

Michelin recommends increasing the cold pressure to 32psi not dropping it. I tried it but once the tire starts a wear pattern it's pretty difficult to change it, that area will always wear out sooner.

I believe you can count on about a ±4 psi increase from static cold to highway speeds greater than 30 minutes.

Just exercise your warranty once it shows obvious wear pattern.

I run 28 psi on my rears and 30 on my fronts but the centers still wear faster on both sets of these Michelin A/S ZPs. My first set were the non Plus and the currents are Plus. If the centers get fown to the wear bar I will be using my warranty for sure!
