Z06 on top ZR1 Test track-Road & Track
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a good thread to get going on.,Road and Track tested all corvettes from mild to wild.volume 63 number 8.just recieved it in the mail. They tested standered corvette, grand sport,Z06 and ZR1.
The CR-6 was included in the test
The engineers preferred the Z06 overall due to its 50/50 balance on track, and the big block feel and power. .
The ZR1 may have been quicker at the Nurburgring, but Tommy Milner was about 1 sec. faster around spring mountain in the ZO6 than in the ZR1.
Engineers state the ZR1 had weight in frount due to supercharger
etc.that threw of proper balance off to get full weight distribution.
CR6 first 55 car lengths ahead Z06 , 7 cars back ZR1 ,Grand Sport 26 lengths regular corvette 59 lengths .
Z06 took the track compition hands down. The CR6 is the corvette that won at Lemans
on the straight 1/4 mile Z06 11.7 -ZR1 11.5
for 30.000- more I cant see if the money is worth it
i have the Z06 always wondered if the difference is worth it.
Ther is a lot of testing info for all corvette owners Road and Track is a must for all of us get the magazine Great stuff. let the thread begin.
Thanks Richard Truman Milton Delware

Yep, the ZR1 premium isn't worth it. I'm going to go even trade it in on a ZO6. I feel stupid for being conned into buying a ZR1. It was all hype with no substance.

Not just the "Ring"...
Have you considered that this is the only track out of probably 100 that the Z06 actually beat the ZR1. If you put a couple of beasts on a small twisty track, (Spring Mountain) I suppose anything can happen...and it did.

I think there have been many previous posts on this. Agreed, the track chosen favored the Z06 as the straight portions were not long enough to showcase the ZR1's 130 HP advantage. As a Z06 owner, I'll keep that article as one of the few favorable ones about the Vette, but realizing that the conditions were some of the few that might favor a Z06 over a ZR1.

I'm trading my Z06 for a ZR...Won't be tracking the car so don't much care what happens on a road course but just watched the Z06 and ZR doing the ring in Germany...THe Z06 hit 171 mph on the long strait and the ZR hit 183 on the same strait...Thats alot in a fairly short distance...To who this matters to the ZR did the ring at 7.19..And the Z06 did it in 7.22...Like the guy that posted they are all Vette's and I like them all just love power.

ZO6 had the zo7 package, so there isn't a 30k difference. Pros and cons to both - better gas mileage on the ZO6, better all around drivability in the ZR1 - top gear pulls and low rpm acceleration is better in the ZR1. Both absolutely great cars.

Yeah, the only time a Z has a chance of outrunning a ZR (assuming same driver) is on a shorter/tighter course like that which was used in the magazine article. They ran that on the shorter/tighter radical loop at SM. The Z is a bit more tossable than the ZR, and it showed in that test. The ZR shines where it has room to stretch its legs a bit and fully leverage the hp advantage it has over the Z.
Either way, not many cars in the world can keep up with either one of them.

Why do people keep saying the ZO6 is a big block? It is a bored out small block. Just because it is 427 ci does not make it a big block. Hard to believe anything is credible when they cannot tell the difference between a chevy big and small block and claim to be engineers.

I don't think saying something has big block feel and power is quite the same as claiming it is a big block.[QUOTE=RobMorgan;1580247685]

They were running 1.5-mile Radical Loop at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch. They should have run one of the the longer course configurations. I've been at VIR(3+ miles) and Summit Point(2+ miles) in a Z06 with R6s and a ZR1 with 2009 runflats. I'm signification faster in the ZR1. Both cars signification faster then any GT-R.

Just because I don't own a ZR1, doesn't mean I don't think it's still king and on the top of the hill. I also think it's very interesting to see how well the Z07 has performed with some of the ZR1 parts.
