Dial back timing light????
Hello fellow c3'ers,
I am trying to find any source for the purchase of a dail back timing light and I am lost. Perhaps I am not looking for the correct name etc..so if anyone could give me a part name, part number or even a sku code I would really appreciate it. I've looked at AutoZone, Pep Boys and Sears websites and cannot seem to narrow it down to a specific "dial back timing light".......they just show timing lights so I am not sure what look for.
Thanks all in advance....

Pick your price I like the Equus ones with the built-in tach.

The 'dial back' timing lights will have a ****/dial on the rear of the light. That **** is what you turn to dial-in the number of degrees [advance] that you desire. Or, you just aim at the timing indicator (at the damper) and turn the **** until the TDC line on the damper lines up with the "0" degree mark on that indicator. Then read the number of degrees on the timing light dial and that tells you the degrees advance that your engine is producing at that time.
I think that all of the 'chain' auto stores sell them. Or you can find one on Amazon.com or eBay.

I got a Craftsman from Sears, it has worked great for a number of years.

Best invention since sliced bread!

MK's78 check out the one Mashman posted, the small picture on the bottom shows the dial.

You can get the $475.00 Snap-On timing light like me, or, you can be smart and buy a Craftsman, Pep Boys, and I think they even have them at Harbor Freight. My hopeless tool addiction! Unless you're going to use it each and every day,the models listed earlier in this post will suit you just fine.

I've got this one, does rpm, charging volts, timing advance, works with all types of ignitions. I forgot it even does dwell, it's been so long. Google for better price.

i have never used a dial back light , i have an old sears that i extended the power lines so i can clip it to the battery terminal in a c3. people in my area years ago called it a "corvette timing light". don't know if its better or not but it always helped me make the car run better.

I have always done what Lars said. I have reclocked this alternator so be careful and pay attention to your connections, not mine.

i guess i'm a relic,i don't have a dial back light, mine is an antique that i have used for about 30 years,as well as an antique snap on dwell meter and tach.but i'm not completely in the stone age , i do have the luxury of a distributor machine.

not one to argue with Lars, i am not. but 30 years ago some of us believed that the terminal (could )interfere with the signal from the timing light causing us to extend our connections. not saying it turned out to be true just saying thats why we did it . i trust what Lars says, sometimes old school isn't the best school.
