MT Grand Sport vs. 911 S
For those of you interested they just did a video on this. I think you all know the outcome. For my money I'll still take the vette. As for the comment about cross shopping, based on what I've heard on the forum, I'd disagree.

Excellent video thanks for posting it. I would agree with their conclusion, right now I would take the 911S but that could change with the intro of the C7.

I'd take the current '12 Carrera S over the C6, but not the previous years 911 Carrera S
3075lbs? I hope the C7 takes a hint from that
I'll be very interested to see how they configure the C7. I'm hoping that it has a starting price tag near 60k and comes with features and quality befitting a world class sports car. Chevy already has the Camaro to handle the 30k-55k range.

We should be proud we have a car from the same manufacturer as the Cruze and Astro van....
Nice thing about the 991 is (I'm hoping) it'll bring the 997.2's down to my price range. I'd love to have a 09+ Carrera S Cab w/PDK

We should be proud as they look nothing like them. On the other hand...

I have always loved the P cars even though I have never even sat in one. I am also not rich enough to ever afford $160K for a car. I am not trying to defend the corvette but lets get real. A $70K car put up against a $160K car? Why not compare the corvette to the Farrari Enzo Or compare a miata to the GS?

Comparisons are all well and good but I wouldn't feel too disadvantaged in a Corvette. I run with all sorts of (mostly all) modified cars. Virtually any car can be smokin' fast and there's always some 'full race' Porsche, BMW, Competition Coupe Viper or World Challenge Series Corvette, etc. that's just in another class....a step above. From what I see and just in general, modified Corvettes (even heavy street cars) do very well against modified Porsches. Again, there are always those truly exceptional 'race' cars (and exceptional drivers) but there's no need IMO to feel second rate against those P-cars. Those Corvettes do pretty damn well at the track.

I just sat in the new 911 at the Detroit car show and was not impressed at all.....liked the 997 and 996 series as far as looks go but the latest especially the console area was not appealing as were the seat bolsters pinching my back.....not too impressed. The ole 08 Z06 feels great....

Meh. One looks like a well-used bar of soap and one doesn't. For that kind of money, I at least need to like what it looks like.

It seems a little dissapointing that the editor who drove these cars didn't verbalize the fact that the cars were very close in performance, but yet the vett cost "as tested" 72K and the 911 was 131K. That is a LOT of extra cash just for what he explains as essentially slightly "better steering".
And, the vett looks much more modern.
