I have a set of Factory 06 Chrome C6 wheels. Looking to put them on my 2000 FRC.

1. wanted to see if any body has pictures of C6 wheels on a C5 other than the C6 Z06 wheels you always see.

2. Wanted to be sure no filament issues with back spacing and tire sizing? Obviously I am looking to put a wider tire on the Back.

Backspace/offset dimensions are as follows for a C5:

C5 (coupe/vert):
Front 17x8.5", 58mm offset = 7.03" backspace
Rear 18x9.5" 65mm offset = 7.81" backspace

C5 Z06:
Front 17x9.5", 54mm offset = 7.38" backspace
Rear 18x10.5", 58mm offset = 8.03" backspace

I have seen this a lot on the C5, it looks 'goofy'

A buddy of mine put some polished oem C6 wheels from a 2006 on his '97 and was pretty happy with them. I don't recall the "pushed" in look noted, but it has been almost 2 years since I saw the car in person last. I know he is a forum member, hopefully he will chime in.

the China repro C6 wheels may have the correct offset for a C5

Either way a very 'basic' wheel with an 'edgy' look that belongs on the C6, IMHO

Here are the Factory C6 coup/vert wheel specs:

C6 (coupe/vert):
Front 18x8.5", 56mm offset = 7.45" backspace
Rear 19x10", 79mm offset = 8.61" backspace

Just comparing the rear offset's to those of the C5 you can see that the C6 rears will be sunk in an additional 14MM compared to the coup/vert and 21Mm compared to the C5Z06. 14 MM is over 1/2 " and 21MM is over 3/4". If you like that sunk in look go for it. Otherwise you are going to need longer studs and wheel spacers or wheel adapters to bring the wheels/tires out to flush to the rear fenders.

If you search a bit...not raging on you just saying there are posts and photos cause I researched quite a bit.

I got a set of OE C6 chromes to go on mine when it's done. General concensus seems to be a pair of 1/4" spacers on the rear will work without changing out studs. I'm planing to try that and see how it looks. A 13 mm (1/2") spacer would probably put it about same as stock but require longer studs.

I have to wonder if 1/4" would be that noticable to make it worth the effort?

I've done it; you'll need a MINIMUM of a 1/4" spacer to make it look right. I still wasn't all that happy with the stance (but the wheels were OEM GM C6 wheels and they were free to me) so I bought 1/2" hub-centric adapters and they looked pretty nice with those. I've since moved to a setup with the proper fitment for a C5...

If you're going to do it you can try it with 1/4" spacers first since they're very cheap. If you don't like the look you can change it later. IMHO I wouldn't go with spacers and longer studs if you do want to push them out a little more; go with hub-centric adapters.

This topic comes up at least twice a month so if you run a search you should be able to find the pictures you want. There are a couple of guys on here that swear there is no need for any spacers at all; just bolt them up and run and there are others that say it looks stupid with anything less than a 3/4" adapter. Since it's your car the only opinion that matters is yours and there's really only so much you can tell from a picture.

Out of curiosity; are the wheels you're getting free? If they're not check out house of wheels and JW Motoring. They both have a ton of C6 style repros in many sizes with the correct offsets for the C5 and they probably won't be much more than the C6 wheels you're considering...

Yep pretty much what I read. Except many said they would rather have an OE rim vrs a repo due to quality and weight. Then I couldn't find a set of C6 replicas that didn't have a wider front rim than stock...so tire choices became an issue. In my case I made my choice and will make them work cause I like the look. C6 rims and remove the BSMs and it's almost like a C6 without the chopped off rear and funky headlights.

Oh, mine weren't free but less than the aftermarket. I must have missed out on the free ones.

They are $500 bones for OEM chrome rims... same type and style as on the Black FRC above. I believe the repo items are about $900 to $1000. What is the typical cost of the spacers or even better the adapters?

I did some searches "C6 wheels on C5" I didn't really come across many pictures. Lots of C6 ZO6 pictures.

I use actual C6 wheels on my C5. I run 255 front 295 rear. If the wheels have a C6 offset (they will if they were made for a C6) they will look stupid at first because the wheel gap will be deeper.

Solution: I have spacers on my wheels up front and in the rear.

10mm spacers up front
32mm spacers in rear (25mm-28mm would look a little more flush)

Both are hub centric, fronts are from Eibach and used longer stud bolts, rear were made by Fred Goeske. The rear spacers do not need longer bolts to use. They grip my wheel so tight I have to kick the heck out of them to get it off the car even with all the lug nuts off... very solid unit.

I had read the C5 and C6 are the same on front therefore not requireing a spacer?

The offset on the C6 non-Z06 wheels is close to that of the C5 but not exactly.

Here is the wheel info for both C5 and C6:

C5 and C6 wheel circle:
5 on 4.75" (120.65MM)

Some use the spacers on the C6 front rims to move the wheels out more flush to the fender on a C5.

Thanks for posting that again.

Keep in mind that the non Z C6 rear is also 1/2" wider than a non Z C5. So according to the chart, the difference in offset is 14mm. A 1/4" spacer would drop the difference to about 1/4" since 14 is only 1mm more than 1/2" If you split the 1/2" more width, that would mean the C6 sticks out 1/4" more inside and out. So in my mind, a 1/4" spacer, behind a stock C6 wheel, should put the outside edge just about the same place a stock C5 sits.

I know some like the look but I'm just talking getting it the same as a stock C5. As for the front, I doubt I could ever see 2mm.

Depends on what is acceptible to each from an appearance point of view. The 2mm on the front is for C5 non-Z06 wheels. The C5 Z06 wheels are an inch wider than coup/vert and have 54 mm offset vs 58mm and the C5Z06 wheels are much closer to flush to the fenders. Hence a spacer on the front of the C6 front wheels on a C5 may be warranted to achieve a flush appearance.

I personally always thought the factory wheels on the a C5 Vert/coup looked very sunk in compared to the C5Z06 wheels. When I went replacement wheels on my C5 vert, I insured that the widths and offsets would bring the front and rears out flush to the fender. Of course I had an additional requirement for the rear on mine. That was the 2" wider rear flares I added to be able to put substancial meat in the back to help hold the HP from my maggie setup.

I did the after market C6 rims in chrome, they are not THAT heavy. I was within 1-2 lbs. of my stock set (new tires are a lot lighter) and the quality is pretty nice. JWM can hook you up with the correct offsets.

On another note, there are many wrong wheel dimensions given in this thread. Some offsets and differences are just wrong...

C6 coupe wheels compared to C5 coupe wheels -> fronts stick out 2mm more and rears retract 8mm.
