Default COMP Cams & Lunati LS Rocker Arm Trunnion Upgrade

Colorado Speed LS Retro-Fit Rocker Arms, 1.7:1 (GM LS Series)

There’s no denying that the GM LS engine platform has proven itself as a performer. The valve train is no different, with an improved design that makes for a perfect combination of power and durability to complement the impressive cathedral port cylinder head design. The rocker arm design features a lightweight, yet stiff rocker body that is strong enough for most applications. However, when it comes to high performance racing applications, high rpm and high valve spring pressures can put the factory rocker arm’s trunnion under intolerable stress.

Colorado Speed has taken an OEM cast steel replacement rocker arm body and added a captured roller trunnion for use in extreme street and race applications. Perfect for drag and circle track racing applications that mandate the use of stock engine components, this performance rocker arm modification is a “must have” upgrade for your LS factory rocker arms. The captured roller trunnion increases stiffness and durability and is NASCAR proven.

Colorado Speed uses COMP Cams® with a new LS rocker arm retro-fit trunnion kit that replaces the cageless, loose OEM needle bearings and powdered metal trunnion with a premium 8620 steel alloy trunnion and caged roller bearings for added durability. The new design from COMP Cams® utilizes caged roller bearings that greatly reduce the possibility of the bearing failure experienced with stock LS needle bearings, which can send loose needles throughout the engine upon failure.

Colorado Speed LS Retro-Fit Rocker Arms are based off customer supplied core rocker arms. Customers can either supply their OEM rocker arms to us or prepay a core charge and send us their core rocker arms within 30 days for a core charge refund. Each customer supplied core rocker arm is checked in detail and refreshed. Customer supplied core rocker arms must be in useable condition. No core charge refunds will be issued on damaged unuseable customer supplied core rocker arms.

If you are supplying your core rocker arms to Colorado Speed, a representative will contact you on shipment after receiving your order.

I have a set as well and can't complain a bit. Bearing swap took about an hour with primitave tools and the replacement bearings have no slop in them and are silky smooth...

Definantly. During a cam swap they have to be removed anyway. Once you get the rockers removed, you'll see that there is about 0.030-0.040 slop on the stock needle bearings. To me, that means added stress and potential valve train instability at high RPMs.

It only takes about an hour to install also.

How about a 20 lb vice or drill press???

Here are a couple solutions.

This first video I found on YouTube:

And this other device allows you to use a bench vise:

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SME-906011/?rtype=10

However, you should be able to easily do the job with hand tools and either a bench vise or drill press and shouldn't need any special tools, except maybe some circlip pliers.

Find a couple sockets of the right size to push the old bearings out, and get a couple big washers for when pushing the new bearings in, and you shouldn't have any problems.

What about the LS7???

There are lots of references above to the "LS Series" engines, but down at the bottom it mentions "LS1, LS6, & LS2".

Will the Comp Cams 13702 trunnion/bearing retro kit work for my C6 Z06 LS7 rockers???

TIA,

Bob

I went to the Comp Cams site the other day and couldn't find anything - they mention a bunch of parts for other LS engines, but make absolutely no mention of the LS3, LS7, or LS9.

So......I asked their tech guys, and I just got an email from them today telling me the same thing - that they'll work with LS7 rocker arms.

As soon as I got this info this morning I ordered the trunnions/bearing upgrade kit from you.

You have a great sale price - thanks very much!!!

How do you adjust the rocker clearance during reassembly?
Is an upgraded rocker arm available with roller tip?
Working on a 2008 Z06.

I ordered these from CO Speed at a great price and they were shipped fast. Did the install with a bench vise and some sockets. It's a pretty easy job and fun too. My valvetrain is much quieter now, sewing machine sound is nearly gone, and there is hardly any slop in the rocker after the upgrade. With the stock trunions there was tons of slop. I recommend this upgrade.
