Default OEM Carbon Fiber Z06 Hood?

What is the actual weight savings with the carbon fiber hood…is it significant or is it just one of those “wow, that’s cool” kind of options?

I’m looking at 2 different Z06 Centennials…one with the CF hood and one w/o. Trying to decide if I should pay for the CF or not. Just a street car, will never see the track (well, maybe the occasional drag strip).

The $2500 doesn’t really matter much, but then again, why pay for something I may never appreciate. Do both hoods look the same as far as external appearance?

Opinions?

The carbon fiber hood on the Carbon Edition Z06 reduces the weight from a stock Z06 hood by 11.5 pounds. The carbon fiber hood looks more like the ZR1 hood as it has the same slight height increase over the stock Z06 hood it doesn't have the polycarbonate window in the center. The Carbon Edition hood shares the same inner skin as the ZR1 hood but has a model specific outer skin with the slight higher rise.

Thank you...very good info.

So, then this would be the CF hood, correct?

Not likely. That's the Centennial Edition. Here is the Carbon Edition hood:

The Centennial Edition is what I’m looking at. There’s a $2495 Carbon Fiber hood option for the Centennial that’s separate from the $3995 Carbon Fiber Package (splitter, rockers, roof & ZR1 spoiler).

I’m trying to determine if the Centennial Edition Carbon Fiber hood looks any different than the standard Z06 hood.

Yes, it looks considerably different in person. It will look exactly like the hood in the two photos that I posted above. Note the large flat area in the center (where the window would be on the ZR1). You can also just see the regular Z06 hood (on the Grand Sport Convertible in the background as the regular Z06 hood is the same as the base coupe and Grand Sport hood.

This is the lightest carbon fiber hood available for the C6. All carbon fiber, and clear coat bottom. 13.5lbs

Molded from the Z06 Carbon high rise hood, but with a Direct Radiator Exit Ducting for much cooler coolant temps.

Thanks all…I believe I have the info I need now.

While I like the exterior appearance of the CF hood, I’m not quite sure I’m good with the added hood height from an interior point of view. I’m very comfortable with the hood on my current coupe from the driver’s seat and not sure I’d want the hood to extend any higher into my forward visibility.

Since I will not have the opportunity to actually sit in a Z06 with the CF hood before I finalize this deal, I think I will opt for the standard hood for now since I know I’m good with it. A new hood is always an easy mod down the road if I want to try a different look in the future.
