Removable Top...?
Hi All,
Well I'm lookin to get a corvette, and I can't find any information on if the C6 Z06 has a removable top.
Does it have a removable top similiar to the regular coupe?
Thanks,
~Dave

Only way to put a removable top on a Z is to cut the frame up as the top of the car and the frame are integrated. In doing so you will lose a TON of stability in the car. Unlike the steel frames that are heavy as hell and are braced to accommodate a drop top, our aluminum framed car is built with racing in mind. Not having a drop top is a down fall (if you want to call it that) of having the best of the best.

The LS-7 Z06 requires a lot of rigidity to work the way it does.
Now there's at least one outfit, in Texas IIRC, who'll chop the top for a targa panel while doing necessary stiffening at ~$10,000, maybe a tad more.

Yes, the frame on the vert is steel......but bracing?
The top of the Z06 is SMC and bolted onto to the frame, is sealant used? is there a full frame like a coupe top?
Does anyone have factual info on aluminum frame vs. steel frame weight? IIRC it's not >200lb delta

The difference between the two is 136 lbs... Also the aluminum frame is far more rigid (believe it or not) than the steel one.

Well, its unfortunate, however not that big of a deal, built for racing is fantastic, but realistically it will only see the track occasionally; and I really just LOVE convertibles, especially in the South where we have a nice long summer :-D.
The Z06 will be more collectible in the future though. Well, I know exactly which one to get now :-D, just to find it.
Red Convertible Grandsport with 2 toned tan/black interior stick shift and the nav system with all the cool little accents.
