check engine light after pumping gas

check engine light after pumping gas
I filled up at two separate stations and the pump would shut off after 3 seconds at each station. Now my check engine light is on... any idea what's going on? I'm still getting normal fuel mileage.

Your gas cap could be loose.... the new vehicles monitor the tank pressure and if iit senses a loss of pressure the check engine light goes on.
Make sure you turn it until it clicks a couple of times.
Could also be a faulty gas cap..... or sensor.... or..... but I would start with the gas cap.
Good luck

I'm not being a smart-azz with this next comment......

When you put the cap on do not put any inward pressure on it. Just turn it until it clicks a few times but don't push on it at the same time.
And to solve the pump shutting off every few seconds turn the nozzle/handle to a 90º angle in either direction while your pumping so it's horizontal instead of vertical. I had the same problem and that fixed it.

Check the seal on the gas cap to make sure it didn't stick and roll up on its edge. Needs to be laying flat for a proper seal so the vapor recovery system doesn't trip the check engine light.
Regarding the pumps, they to have a vapor recovery check system in place that will shut off the pump if it doesn't have a proper seal. I noted on the C6 that the fill is on a more extreme angle than your typical car/truck.

From my past experiences on my 06Z06 with the gas cap issue, it will take a dozen engine starts to turn off the CEL. I would highly recommend that you completely remove and then reinstall the gas cap as described above; ie, don't exert downward pressure on the cap as you twist it on. My gas cap CEL almost always happened right after a fill-up. It's a common enough problem with the C6 gen cars.

I have not had this issue with the Corvette but with my GTO it happens a lot and the only way to clear the light is to pull the ECM fuse for a few seconds and it will reset. I have replaced the gas cap and it throws a code a few times a year and usually when the tank is low.

Bought one the same day I got back from Autozone where the girl, who is apparently required to scan for me since I used to borrow it and scan in their lot, said she cleared the code and didn't.

I use a Predator to scan the codes and it has an option to clear the codes but it does not. I pull the fuse to clear the evap code for the gas cap.

It could also just be a faulty fuel cap. It's been discussed on hear often. I know you don't want to find a Chevy dealership, but this would be very inexpensive and easy. Just go to parts dept. It's a diy.

I pulled into a Chevy dealer in Dallas today and the light turned off once I got in the parking lot... it was almost as if the car knew.

Was $30...now even cheaper. $26 to your door and works on the C6
