Default Video: 2011 Corvette ZR1 on Top Gear USA!

Who cares if it's as good as the British Version? Here's the ZR1 going around the track!

did they really use a 458 italia with 22's on it to test it around the track? That seems crazy and dangerous but they didn't show the video of it, tanner just said it was on 22's. They must have used the white GFG one and now the black one showed earlier. The ZR1 was blazing around the track.

That's the same thing I said in the other thread. They use the same zr1 but different Ferrari. Raises some questions.

Not exactly a proper comparison. The 22" with (probably) less than stellar rubber would be like roller skates on that choppy concrete!

Well, they could have easily used a '12 with cup tires and Stig might have beaten the ACR time. It's just a TV show.

It was wearing Pirelli Pzero Nero tires which according to the TireRack tests actually slightly out perform the standard Michelin PS2. The fact that they were 22" added some weight but the 458 has 20" as standard all the was around.

Here is so info I got from another board about why that car was tested:
I work for Reveille Productions which is the company responsible for U.S Top Gear.

The 458 was supplied by a private party. We contacted Ferrari but they could not deliver a 458 in time for our production, which was 3 weeks from the time of our request. We attempted to get a 458 on loan from a dealership or rental company but both Ferrari and the dealers rejected our request. Had it not been for a production member making a contact that owned a 458 we would have used a different car.

GM supplied the Corvette which was given to us on loan from a local dealer. After production the car was shipped back to GM and the dealership was supplied a new Corvette to replace the one we tested.
This does not really give a reason why they used 2 different 458s though. It may be that the owner of the black one did not want it tested on the road course?

I strongly suspect there's a lot more going on behind the scenes here than Ferrari not being able to deliver a car "in time." Ferrari is very keen on supervising any testing done with their newest car de'jour, and they've made it known to several magazines and whatnot that their cars are not to be tested against Corvettes.

Things like that will force the hand of any television show and/or magazine.

There is good reason to be suspicious:

Ferrari is smart enough to know it has NOTHING to gain by pitting any of their products against a ZR1. If the ZR1 wins, then Ferrari looks bad. If the Ferrari wins, it's still 3 times the price, so it still looks bad.

The 458 is an incredible performance machine and I'd rather have one for track work if it wasn't my money. I'd also certainly rather have one for cruising around town, again, if it wasn't my money. But, for MY money, I'll take the ZR1 which I did. However, I certainly understand many people who have more disposable income than myself would prefer the Ferrari and I completely understand why.

I've always felt that Ferraris are like high maintenance women. I wouldn't want to own one, but I'd sure enjoy driving someone else's!

PZero Nero are decent, but not up to level of the Michelins. And going to 22's will do serious damage to cornering on rough surfaces. 19's would be better if they would clear the brakes. I'd hate to track a ZR1 wth 22's!
