Trying to temperature sending unit for my 1990.
My son was trying to be helpful and suprise me by putting on my new upgrades while I was out of town. Needless to say he threw out the old parts once he was done. I bought a lower temp fan switch. With good intentions he replaced the wrong sensor. He removed and threw out the temperature sending unit between cylinders 8 & 6. I have been on the hunt for one for a weeek now. GM d/c them and other sites carry them for 1991 &/or 1990 and up ZR-1. not sure if the 91 would work or not any input on where to get one would be greatly appreciated.

According to my parts CD the GM number 8993146 is the same as AC Delco D1885 which seems to be available from several sources.

thanks for responses. i was looking for a sensor for direct replacement without having to splice wiring. That is the problem I am having. My sensor does not have a male connection instead it has a nipple that the wire harness slides over. I will continue to search a little more or I will be changing the connector.

Sounds like you're confused.
If your son removed the temperature sender/sensor for the
dash cluster gage, it would have looked like the picture below.
The connector is single spade lug.
As has been posted, that sensor is readily available.
Both fans on a 90 are controlled by the ECM.
From the factory there was no fan switch.
If you want to install a fan switch you would remove the
pipe plug between cylinder 1 and 3. You would also need
to purchase the proper connector and then tap into the fan circuit
to control the fans.
Notice a fan switch uses a single pin push on plug.

According to the Chevrolet microfiche
90 Base model Y body used a Delco D1885
GM 8993146 which is the spade lug type connector
90 Y Body ZR1 used Delco 213-80
GM 25037346 which used the side slide on type connector.
91 Y Body base model and the ZR1 used
Delco 213-80
GM 25037346
If he has the Delco 213-80 side slide on type connector,
it would indicate the factory started using that style sender during the 90 model production year on some base model Y bodies.
