Default 63 327 Starter

Went to NAPA to get a starter and this is what they gave me for a manual transmisson:

https://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/C...+50012+2012030

The mounts are horizontal.

I think I need this one:

https://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/C...+50012+2012030

The mounts are vertical and appear to be straight across.

Thanks for the help.

Those links just give an error message from NAPA. Looks like a problem on their end.....

not sure what is going on with the NAPA links...they worked for me but....

I was given part #246-4803, remfd starter for manual transmission however the mounts appear to be horizontal and wont mount up to my block.

If I look at part #246-4791, remfd starter for auto transmission, the picture appears correct and the mounts are vertical and appear straight across.

Before I return and ask for the auto #4791, I want to make sure I am not missing something. I have a manual transmission car.

Maybe NAPA screwed up?

Why not have yours rebuilt?

Could not see your links, but look at the bellhousing - if you have a bell housing with starter bolt holes, it plugs in with horizontal bolts. Most likely, and I believe that your block is drilled for a block mounted starter, the 327 should take 2 vertical bolts (one long, one short) inline that screw into the block.

If a previous owner installed a larger flywheel/flexplate (168 tooth), the block mounted starter will use 2 equal length bolts staggered.

Yes, they did - starters with horizontal bolts mount to the bellhousing (instead of to the block), and '62 was the last year for bellhousing-mounted starters on manual-transmission Corvettes.
