One very quick 54 Corvette
In the April issue of Hemmings Muscle Machines there was a picture from 1968 of Jim Elliot's 6 cylinder 54 doing 107 in the low 13's for the 1/4 mile. Anyone know of a quicker 6 cylinder, either a Chevy or GMC? While I enjoy my 54 I see it as a cruiser and not at all like some of the fuelies that I've had in the past. Elliot's number give me new found respect for that Stovebolt 6. Bill

My '54 ran 11.97 @117 mph and won E/MP at the NHRA Summer Nationals in '67 running a 301 GMC 6. It held nine National NHRA records in E/F/G/H Modified Production. It was, at that time, given the distinction of being the World's Fastest 6 Cylinder Corvette.
I was contacted by the Registrar of the '53-'55 cars earlier this year and he indicated that, according to his data, it is the only '54 (as well as '53 & '55 cars) to hold a National record sanctioned by either NHRA or SCCA.

Dick Bertalucci in Sacramento CA had or has a dragster running the old GM 6cyl that ran in the 7 second range, he also had a few big block Corvette's. He did it just to be different, everybody was going fast with the V8's.

The car was featured in a SACC publication and in a limited section of Sports Car Market. It was on display at the National Corvette Museum for sixteen months (2009-2010). Some of our forum members saw it there. If you would like some of the pics and history, email me and I will be happy to provide the info.

Back in the 70's Bruce Sizemore had his Ford Six powered Pinto in the 9's. It ran I/Gas. NHRA.
I had my Maverick H/MP in the 10.80's. in 73....
Check this out..Ford six VS 427 Camaro...Chevy has no chance.

American Racing. The front wheels still have the Firestone "Drag 500" lettered on the tire. They are in really tough shape but I tubed them. No way you can find them today.

Nahhh. Just multi-cultural. Spent the first part of my life working for FOMOCO. The second part of my life GM. Place in my heart for both.
A good friend of mine (Pat Henneberry) used to run H/MP with a Camaro and Chev. six. His car had a great name....SIX FIEND.
