Looks like it will drop right in. Good price for the 383 420hp motor. Valve covers do look a little tall. Good luck.

Those valve covers will hit your wiper motor cover.I just finished putting a 406 motor in my 88.I had to use tall center bolt covers with more clearance than the covers on your 383 and they just cleared the back of the wiper motor by 1/16 of an inch.To give myself somemore clearance I shaved the back corner of the plastic on the back of the wiper motor.

Couple of things.

1. That camshaft will not work with the TPI. 230@.050 is Mini Ram or converted single plane intake territory if used in an EFI application. Performer RPM if used in a Carb application. Also it's a flat tappet.... Why step back 30yrs and have to deal with all the oiling problems.

2. It's that cheap for a reason. Cast crank, stock rods, cast pistons. The alum cyl heads are China made junk. If it really makes 420Hp (which I highly doubt) it won't last long if you beat on it with those cut rate parts in the bottom end.

I'm not trying to rain on your parade but some of these mail order crate motor deals are the worst of the worst. Any good local machinest/engine builder can build you an engine that will be a perfect fit for the car and your application. All you have to do is sit down with them and go over some basic stuff (ie budget and performance expectations).

They look like Pro Comp to me. I've seen a number of them and don't have ANYTHING really nice to say about them. The quality runs from sub par (compared to any Dart, RHS, AFR, Brodix ect) to total crap. With lots of port work they can be turned into OK performing heads. Patriot uses the same basic casting - just CNC ports it and uses their own known quality imported valves, springs, retainers ect... The heads are still dogs compared to known quality parts.

You are not going to learn anything meaningful from HP TV. Those product spots are paid advertisements. Just for a second, imagine you are the host of HP TV. Would you really bad mouth people who are paying you to feature their products on your TV show??

talk to tpi_421_vette on here. He will build a motor right and will work with any budget you have. When it comes to getting a new motor don't risk having to do it twice. Spend the money, build it right, enjoy
