Default Small Block Chevy Cylinder Head Identification

I'm looking at a small block Chevy engine. Without taking the valve covers off and obtaining the foundry cast number in the rocker arm valley, is there any way to determine what kind of cylinder heads are on the block? I can tell you that there are no accessory bolt holes on the heads, and the cylinder head production cast marks show a narrow rectangle with a small triangle in the middle above it. Are these heads to a 283, 327....high perf or just passenger...etc??

it will be very hard to know what you are looking at without taking the valve cover off. its very easy to take four bolts to see what you are looking at. that's a very handy site posted above it is all true

They were considered a performance head ( Power Pack) until the "camel hump" heads came along. They had 1.72˝ intake valves and 1.50˝ exhaust valves and if the rectangle with the pyramid had a machined surface, they were Flint heads. If not, they were Tonawanda heads.
