GT500: "Out Classed"

Z06: " Got out feeling like I just been in a fight, hands shaky with adrenaline, God what a mighty car."

GT-R: "Rarely is a car so powerful & so fast, so composed, so non-threatening, but that's the GT-R. The jump-in & go supercar...that makes it the ultimate 5-figure phenom."

Wow they are 3 very different cars. I have had all three of these cars in there older models. I can vouch that nothing has changed. Mustang still heaps of fun who cares if it does slower lap times when you can blow the rears on a corner and control the car on the right foot. Corvette just an axe murderer and when you get it right it is very, very quick. The GTR with that massive punch in the back out of the corners as the turbos are spooling up is great fun as well, he mentioned several times he had only one hand on the wheel ? Very clinical car as he said boooooring but very fast. I'll take all three and drive them on different days of the week ! great clip thanks for the watch Stewy

Equip the Z06 with AWD and we'll run that test again.

That would be nice...How much additional weight about 200-300 pounds?...The "old guard" would have a fit

Very nice videos! Great way to sum up the different approaches each car represents.

I think they need to go mid-engine. There are just too many excellent cars in the front engine/rwd market niche. And now with the GTR out, the corvette doesn't even win the best performance/$ category.

Equip the GTR with 500 lbs less and we'll run that test again.

No ifs and buts, brother. It is what it is. I do think the Z06 would still pass the GTR past the 1/4, but who knows.

You could tell towards the end when he was told the lap times....the driver seemed to like the z06 better, and wanted to say it was faster....lol.

You also must say that with more time under the belt with the z06 he would have certainly surpassed the gtr time....and considering how much less involved the gtr is to get good times (awd, auto, etc) you could argue that even with more time with the gtr, theres a limit to how much better he could have done.

same applies as the drag strip - which is apparent with the 11.8 (I think stock ls3's are faster) - he just needs more time with the z06 to get the best times than with the gtr.

Yes he liked the Z06 better. Didn't you hear him say that he liked an american made RWD 6 manual car? Either way the GT-R beat out both of the other cars with little effort.

You can also argue that if you push the GT-R harder that you can get a much better time out of it as well.

The 2012 GT-R would for sure beat your average Z06 driver in the 1/4 mile stock for stock. Unless you are an Awesome driver or ranger you aren't going to beat the times the New GT-R is pushing out (11.1 in the 1/4)

No, we mustn't say that. At the very least, you just don't know. Those who have taken the GT-R to its true limit say it's quite a handful, and that if it feels boring or uninvolving, that's only because they're well down on its true limit. There is definitely a technique to make the most of its AWD, and it's not a technique you can apply to the other cars in this test.

Here's the same mag getting a 12.5 for a stock LS3:

12.2 for the Grand Sport:

I agree. Maybe after a whole week of testing (or a couple of weeks) on that surface, which doesn't look sticky with prep, he might be a few tenths quicker.

The Cobra wasn't making the power that was stated ! It was way off the pace on the quarter it should of been closer to the Vette ? I'm betting it was struggling to make 500 hp ! Anyway bang for the buck it was half the price of the other cars @ 55k Stewy

Don't be upset about the GTR it has always been a faster car than the Corvette from the R32,R33,R34 and now the R35 ! The Vette will never have 4x4 and will always struggle against the GTR. Just be thankful the Vette can almost keep up with the best there is. What about the people who buy a 200k car and get blown to the weeds by a GTR. Us Aussies have had the 4x4 turbo stuff well before the States had them and it drove me crazy being beaten by a Rice Rockets. I changed my cars like hot cakes trying to keep up with them with V8 rear drive cars and ended up with a R34 GTR. I still prefer a normally aspirated rear wheel car but for race track speed 4x4 has always been very quick ! Stewy

True, as it's almost common knowledge at this point that bone stock C6 Z06s have gone as quick as 10.9 and 11.0s at 127/128+mph (with the quickest bone stock C6 LS3 running an 11.7 at almost 120mph). Good track prep of course but it does show that the cars are clearly capable of it.

I had just wished he had done a lap with the traction on in the Vette. It would of been interesting to see the lap time ? Stewy

Taking 3-4 vettes and posting them as proof is not common knowledge. Yes a handful of people have crossed into the 10's stock but what is the norm? The GTR will run 11.0's consistently and trap higher than any stock LS3 vette!
