B&B shorty headers
Anyone have some installed photos of them and opinions? I currently have long tubes, but am thinking about swapping them for these so as not to deal with all the visual smog hassles. I know the shorties are not much of an improvement over the cast iron manifolds, but on my '99 the original manifolds were the stamped ones that look as though they flow very poorly compared to the later ones.
The long tubes made a very noticable difference. Probably more so on a car like mine vs. a one with the cast iron manifolds.
thanks

I only have a pic of them installed from above....
I installed these for the looks, for heat (they are ceramic coated) and to offset some of the weight of my KB supercharger. Plus I wanted to remain CARB compliant. As the shorty haters will point out, they will not give significant performance gains.
Good Luck....

You can also get a pairs of Z06 stock headers--they are better than the stock stainless designed ones as they look like a shorty headers with individual runners and a small collector--I used them for a few years before i got my LT's -- showed about 10-12 RWHP over the stock ones--But you'll need to take the car to have them installed as the angle of the outlets are differnt than the stainless ones and adapters need to be fabbed up--

I just installed a set.. I like them.. Ive owned shorties for all my performance cars.. I chose shorties for the same reason as you..a way to "Optimize" the system but still pass SMOG...
Bottom line is that I like them.. the SOTP dyno could feel a diffrence but I have no actuall measurment to quantify.. an optimized system is an koptimized system.. their TONS lighter that the stockers... get them used!

I got some as a gift and installed them in about 4 hours. the installation is pretty simple, and you don't have to modify the exhaust. but i had to install a new dipstick tube, and extend the air tube, as they were for 01+, and i have a 99. they change the sound of the exhaust a little bit, and they also add a little power. they also save something like 35lbs from switching them with the stock manifolds. sorry no pics right now, but i can say they are about the best shorties u can get, and you will never have problems with corrosion.

Thanks for all the replies. The cast iron manifolds I am not interested in simply because of weight.
My car currently is really strong in the torque dept, idles like stock, and is overall a please to drive both in traffic and on the road course. If I had thought about the shorties a year or so ago I would have went with a bigger cam to offset the loss from my longtubes. In any case I'll consider the B&B shorties.
thanks

Why are you selling and how much are you asking?
Personally, I don't like the silver coating. I prefer no coating if stainless and I use black jet hot on mild steel exhaust.

Not sure if you'll see a gain over 02+ Z06 Exhaust Manifolds, but if you're interested, I'm selling them for $75 + shipping.

I had a set installed latst weekend... and on the ride home I could tell that performance wise it was diffrent....
I havent driven the car since last sunday (its a garage queen now since I got a truck to drive everyday), and I drove it this morning.. I'll confirm that there is a HUGE diffrence ove stock... more grunt down low.. louder growl when my righht foot is down.... Now.. I didn spend 500 buck for a new set ~225 + 200 to have them ceramic coated... but Im feeling like i did when I got a set of shorties for my Camaro... Its money well spent.. LT's would be better... but LT's arent legal in in CA.
My advise.. get a set and moveon to the next MOD...

let me know when you are ready to sell. I'll probably take them. I don't see any c.a.r.b. tags welded on them nor do I see anything about them being smog legal on the B&B site. How will I convince the smog shop that they are legal here in CA without any c.a.r.b. number? If I can't pass smog here with them then there is no reason for me to isntall them.

My car goes into the shop in early March. I also have them on Kijiji locally. If you still are interested then I will contact you and send them out!

When I had mine ceramic coated, they coated right over the plate. I got B&B to send me another plate and I glued it over the coated plate with a high temp adhesive.
If the headers aren't labelled, they'll have no way to say that they are the headers belonging to the CARB #.

good info, thanks. I looked through that site and there is an e.o. # for the B&B shorties. Now I just need to make sure if I get a set they have the number on them.
