Default another broken valve spring

02' Z06, with 90k miles. I was leaving a red light and it gave out at around 30 mph. I felt a huge loss in power and heard a tapping noise from the motor so I shut the engine off and coasted to a parking lot. I took off the valve covers and this is what I found:

What should I do next?

If it were me, Id try to air up the cylinder maybe with a portable air tank and change the bad spring. Get it home, then change all the springs, retainers/keepers and even the valve seals.

Of course, youll need the valve spring compressor tool and the whip hose to air up the cylinder as well as a new spring and retainer/keepers.

Dont start it again whatever you do!

Can you tell from the pic if there was any other damage? Do you know if the COMP 918 springs come with new retainers?

Looks like the Valve keepers came out. You may also have Head & Piston damage

Maaaan I hope not, I have been so sick of this car lately. Seems like everything falls apart after 80k miles. I have had this car a year and already replaced:
brake rotors
brake pads
radiator
radiator endtank
tires
A/C compressor,orifice tube, accumulator
battery
I'm probably forgetting other things...

Things that still need fixing:
oil pressure sender
windshield washer pump
center armrest (material split down the middle from heat?)

I'll probably need a clutch soon too.

Let us know what the end result is. Man not to be a jerk but that looks like the valve has droped in a little much
Good luck

Sorry to hear about your failure. What is the build date listed in on the drivers door?

I feel your pain. My car is getting the springs replaced today. Broke a spring last Friday.

My car has 38,322 miles. Built in Aug. of 2002.

I did mine as preventative maintenance. Much cheaper to do the springs than an engine.

That is just basic maint. If this was your old E36 M3 you probably would have spent close to the cost of your Z06 on maint by now lol

Actually, I want to say I spent less on maintaining the M3 for the entire time I had it than I have on the Z06 in the year I have had it...

Consider yourself lucky and in the minority then. There is a reason the value of European car values drop off a cliff when they are close to being out of warranty or out of warranty. Repairs are expensive!

I don't think I fixed anything on my BMW that cost less than $100! At least I don't have to worry about interior door handles breaking off in my hand or plastic water pump impellers going out like clockwork at 60k miles with the Z lol

You had 19's on the M3 right? Those can't be cheaper than the 17in tires on your Classics?

Aren't those aftermarket springs already? They are not the factory yellow beehive springs, unless im blind. If I were you I would boroscope that cylinder to see if you have any piston damage then then do a leak down test on that cylinder.

Look on the bright side. Now you can bolt on a set of AFR's and never look back. Later down the road you can do a cam and all the bolt ons too. Now bust out that credit card, your on the way to 450 rwhp
