Default Corvette V12? The BUILD....

If you've been around a while- you've seen this one-

A Pacecar w/ a Jag V12-

Boy-this guy gets flamed....
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-g...h-the-v12.html

And here's my idea/ project a BMW V12- NO frame mods/NO firewall mods/ Stock motor mount bolted to a mount I made that bolts to the stock V12 block mounts- Will even fit under a small block hood....

It fits- w/ no real issues-

What do you think??? Or Flame away......

Richard

I used to have a JAG E-type V-12....probably the lousiest car I've ever owned. (The engine that couldn't do ANYTHING right).

I guess the whole point is...what's the point?
My point is - "Because I can!!!"

Its a restomod- that I didn't just click on various Websites and then just bolt the pieces on.

Just about all of the stuff is designed & made by me-

When I open the hood- this is what I see - and proud to say- "I built it..".

BMW V12 M73 ALL aluminum-

It's definitely something I've never seen done. I wouldn't do that to my Vette. He should have just built his original engine.

That is one of the coolest swaps I've seen. I'd do that in a heartbeat if I found that engine before I built mine. Is he able to run a manual transmission behind it?

Jag V-12's are nice but down on power compared to a small block Chevy.

GM did try a Falconer V-12 in a C4. 601 cubic inch, 660-horsepower and 782 ft./lb. of torque.

Jag V12 are nice- but about as heavy as a Cast Iron big block (685lbs)

However- the BMW V12 I'm gonna run with weighs in about 500lbs- fully dressed - A little more than a LS1.

As far as power goes- About 300HP in stock form. I've pulled all the accessories (A/C & P/S) and setting it up w/ a dry sump-a little clean up and I really will only see about 350HP. So- really close to what my original LS-5 made back in the day.

Hauq- Manual transmission is not a problem- The BMW 850's came w/ a 6 speed-and they are not too tough to find.

That's pretty cool for sure. I'd like to hear the exhaust note on the thing.

Very few can say they have a V12!!!!

As far as more HP-or 850 CSI motor- it gets expensive $1300 cams times two...Stroker crank $4000. Chips are $400 but only worth 30HP.

I got the motor out of a 1990 750IL - on the cheap- I bought the complete car for $700 (yes-Running and driving- original paint never wrecked)

Here's one of the swaps that gave me the idea-
Is a Datsun 240/280Z w/ a GTO replica body on it and a BMW V12 powering it-

When putting that BMW V12 in, there got to be a lot of electrical work to be done? Much more than putting the engine in?
Should have been a CSI engine but i suppose thats a lot more $

Actually- thanks to reading the Lambo Kit Car building forms- these guys have mapped out all the wires. I'm using the stock computers (1 for each bank of 6cyl and one that syncs them-3 total).

Before I pulled the motor - I clipped wires and made sure everything worked correctly- I even wired the electronic throttle under the hood and made sure it worked-

Electronic throttle-

In addition to the six wires for the drive by wire throttle- have only 3 check light bulbs to wire- power/switched ignition/ ground and fuel pumps (2). It's really not that tough.

The dry sump has also been done before- BMW uses a two part oil pan and I just have to cut a piece for the lower pan- add some hoses/pump and tank.

That's a good looking replica. I wonder why they didn't put a Ferrari V12 in it?

That engine scores high on the uniqueness scale but if you want performance equal to that go with a lightly modified LS engine.
