This widebody stuff is getting ridiculous

16 Vettes and counting…..
The left rear tire isn't really that wide. You're seeing the front along with it. Check out the right rear tire...normal width. Having said that, that particular widebody kit looks like crap.

I think it's ugly too, but you need to research before you type!
Your comment ' no need for that much tire', is ill informed, as that kit utilizes stock Z06 wheels with a 345/25 tire, also using crazy 3 1/2" spacers to kick the wheels out to fill the wells.
SSVette makes the kit.

Through the ages.....the reason for this is unchanged....
This is nothing new automotive wise. The same "effect" can be seen in the animal kingdom. Just look at what natural selection did to male peacocks.
Something I enjoy is observing ridiculous modified foreign, usually Japanese, cars. Now, I've carefully avoided using a word that begins with "r". I wouldn't want to hurt anyone's feelings etc.
What I look for first of all is biggest spoiler aka "rear wing". The largest I've seen so far was on something like an Accord or Prelude ( who knows the difference anyway ) and was a good YARD high. It included the topmost wing as well as one lower. Kind of a "biplane" spoiler.
It was as wide as the car as it overhung the outline of the trunk lid to which it was attached ( must have been braced on the inner side ).
"Wings" are really funny sometimes on these cars. Also fun to observe can be the huge exhaust pipe extensions, front grills of various types etc. and vinyl racing stripes all over the vehicle.
Now, ( I'm 60 now ) back in the 60s the same kind of thing was going on. If something is a good thing....in terms of attracting attention to males ...then bigger is better. Back then the most popular mods were things like hood scoops and jacked up rear ends with HUGE tires.
This stuff got really funny but also really pitiful. You'd constantly see cheap trashed cars like, back then, the Ford Falcon, with a huge scoop, the rear jacked up several feet, and huge tires. Then there would be stripes all over the thing etc. But, the basic car was unchanged....three speed manual on the column and a straight six engine etc. Just junk.
I must admit I like the "Z06 look". I'd be proud to own one. But, then, I don't show my cars or use them to attract attention. I mean, why bother at my age , but I didn't when I was younger either. I just like the car for how it looks. Many people are this way.
But, for equally many, it's about attracting attention to yourself. This is why the widebody thing is growing to such ridiculous ( and entertaining ) proportions. If Z06 wide is good then wider than Z06 must be better right?
The root cause is hundreds of millions of years of evolution that has rendered many of us slaves to attracting attention to ourselves. We also, males that is, tend to compete with each other as well which leads to such disastrous behavior as street racing. It's all about testosterone.
One famous feminist stated some years back that she considered all males to suffer from "testosterone poisoning". Having lived decades under it's control I can say it's been nice now for about 25 years since I figured out I didn't care what women think of me or whether I am attractive to them.
Like many similar enlightened males my car is for me. As such, if someone likes a huge rear end on his car because he enjoys how it looks more power to him. However, if he's still just on the treadmill of competition to look more macho than the next guy, and using his car to do it, I pity him but offer him the hope that as he ages he will also, eventually, wise up.

Cosmetic vs. Functional
I am not a big fan of this extra wide body kit , but I do have a question . With the extra spacers needed to push the ZO6 tires out to fill the wheel wells , does the car handle better on a road course due to the widder stance ? Or , would there be a problem because the front tires are still at the stock width ? Any road racers care to educate this Corvette lover ?

I think it is over the top. Takes away from the intended lines of the car. But if going for all black meanness the black Z06 above is bad ***. Not sure about running 3 1/2 in spaces is such a good idea though. I have no experience with spacers so this is just my uneducated opinion.

A poor decision by GM to increase the track by using fender flares, an even poorer decision by whoever makes these flares. Reminds me of some of the aftermarket C3 fenders.
Datsun (Nissan) had a better way of doing it when they went from the 280Z to the 280ZX, they widened the fenders completely, instead of just adding a flare to the existing part.
