Default TR6060 grind story :-)

My 08' sees it's fair share of redline shifts. The last time I took the car out I had a issue.....the normal route consists of a 8 mile warm up in 90 deg. southern heat before a little adrenaline release.

All was good and I shifted 1st-2nd at 6k and grind....no lockout and 3rd was fine as was 4th. Not happy and attempting to attribute it to lack of warm up I drove some more 10 miles to make sure the trans was super warm!!!!!!

1st-2nd grind.......immediately 2008 trans defect threads start popping in my head......stupid car....stupid GM.....car has 1500 miles on it....POS....the brain is working overtime.

After I came home and cleaned house, yes I clean house it ensures extracurricular time with the wife , I flushed the reservoir twice. It was nice and Amber Bock brown when I started and nice and super clear when I finished. It's been about 500 miles since the last flush.

Took the car back out temp was still at 160 when I started it. Same route 1st-2nd 6.8k no grind...............slowed down did it again 1st-2nd 7k no grind.......I know for many and maybe me one day too, the 6060 has issues, so far flushing has helped tons for me

Yeah....it helps off and on for me. It's kinda weird, the trans grinds sometimes and sometimes not, seems to have no effect whether or not it is warmed up! I flushed the clutch fluid reservoir MANY times and it's always nice and clean. I thought maybe to change the tranny fluid to Amsoil Severe Gear and some said they have had good success?

I took it to the dealer for this issue, and they said the trans is tight when first purchased and it should loosen up. So far the car has 10K right now. Any other suggestions out there guys?? Thanks!

I do plan to change the fluid at some point just because I've always been a Amsoil and Royal Purple junkie, but I'm just happy no grind. I talked to a guy who brought his car in for service for 2nd gear grind they had his car for 4 weeks.

I'm sorry, I would probably just save pennies in a piggy bank, and get a RPM built 6060 before letting the dealer play peek a boo for 4-5 weeks with my car.

interesting...the other day, mine wouldn't shift into 2nd...tried it again, nothing, going down the road, I went to 3rd..no problems...I parked the car for about 30min. Went back out...shifts with no problems....I know what you mean when it comes to your brain working overtime...I was immediately thinking...oh no..this 6060 is toast...damn...

Mine had the problem going into 5th... Had a local shop (ZR51 Performance) take it apart and the problem appeared to be that GM uses plastic pieces to cover the fork that pushes the gear/synchro mechanism. Add to this that the fork has sharp metal edges and the plastic pieces wore down into it, which we believe caused the grind... When it went back together with new 5th gear parts the fork edges were relieved slightly to remove the sharp edge and keep it from cutting the plastic. Why are there plastic parts in this transmission? I dont know...

Flushing has not had any positive effect for me (2009 Z06) as far as the cold 1-2 & 2-3 grind issue goes. Perhaps your tranny was still warm enough when you took it out the second time.

Have you flushed the clutch fluid???

I didn't wait around to see if I would have a problem so upon realizing a potential problem, thanks to Ranger. I flushed mine a week after I bought my car.

I bought my car with 18 miles on it but it sat for 13 months before I finally came around to rescue it from Chicago. It did sit indoors but was an overflow area (warehouse) at the dealership so you can guess that the temps fluctuated drastically maybe causing a little condensation in the fluid.

..................................vvv

The clutch was different than my in C5Z's. It was much easier but I thought that was normal for a C6Z. The shifts "may" have been a little notchy in comparison but not much, if any.

Here's the before and after pictures of the fluid flush. The excessively easy clutch changed to normal operation (similar to my C5Z's) and absolutely no notchy feel what so ever.

Well, i'll add my story.

Had an 08, same problem. Car sat the dealer the first time for about 2 months! Second time since repair wasn't adequate... two weeks. Turned that car in and got an 09.

My 09, with about 7000K miles, started to grind 2nd BAD! I regularly replace the clutch as I did with my 08. They replaced the 2nd gear synchro set and rings, etc.

I have noticed, when cold, the transmission just seems to not mesh well in some gears, especially 2nd. It seems, if you are selection 2nd gear SLOWLY, you can almost feel the shifter get "kicked" back into neutral until you "forcefully" slide it through. Same goes for 3rd and sometimes 4th. As the temps climb, it gets slicker but sometimes I still feel that kickback in 2nd/3rd.

I'm not really sure what the problem is but as of right now, i have called around and most shops just tell me there are NO parts available that are "HD" and cure the issue... I was told to just keep bring it back to the dealer for service. Also, if the trans goes again and they find none stock fluid in there, let say amsoil, do you really think the way GM is that they are going to NOT give me an issue when it comes to the repair being under warranty. Funny story, they tried to pin the 08's trans issues on my MGW short-throw shifter. They admitted that they saw the SAME issue with another car with a stock shifter so why "force" me and insinuating that they won't repair the car unless "I" (or have the dealer charge me for a new assembly/labor) BEFORE repairing it? I swear, if I didn't love this car/brand/country I'll be riding in a import with no remorse!

My 08 is notchy when cold 1-2 and 2-3. I double clutch for a few miles until the fluid warms up. Then it shifts as smooth as butter.

Flushing definatly makes the shifts smoother. My Z is at the dealer right now because of the grinding problem. However mine grinds from 2-1st downshift and when I put it into reverse.

Good luck!

All this talk about the 6060 having problems. I can assure you, after owning plenty of cars with the T-56, it was not without its faults either.

These new T60-60's may have a problem with 2nd gear. Mine broke with under 7K miles on it.

Some of you guys may recall I started a thread last year about the cold-grind issues on the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts.

My '08 seems to have gotten better with time. I still experience an ocasional 1-2 "bump" or "notchiness", even when warm, but only ocasionally. Otherwise, the problems seem to have mostly cured themselves; although I still shift slowly and carefuly until fully warmed up. Of course, it's summer in Arizona, so the trans is relatively warm even when cold. We'll see how it goes this winter.

I do flush the clutch fluid regularly; probably at least once a month and after each hard run.

Mine seems to be the opposite (08 with 17k miles.) It is fine cold but after warming up it doesn't like to go into second gear. Any other gear is fine, just 1-2 is a struggle at times. Very random problem too and I cringe every time I go to put it into 2nd
