I just bought a set of CCW classics from the board here for drag use. I just got them powder-coated anthracite with clear added. Here are some pictures incase you ever want to change things up!

Did you disassemble the wheels first? Or did you have it all done as single pieces?

They were just coated as a whole.

Wow, I didn't think the sealant between the wheel pieces was able to hold up to the heat of the powdercoating oven.

Now I'm concerned. Maybe it didn't hold up?!?!

Coater inpsected them and said it was good to go....

Maybe the wheels will fall apart when I drive now!!

Wheels won't fall apart - they are bolted together. I would just worry about air leaks.

Not to screw up your day even more, but when you mount/dismount the tires, you have to be VERY careful not to disturb the seal between wheel center/halves. If this bond is damaged, the wheels might have to come apart for a "re-seal". Not a big deal, but if they were coated as a single unit,..........

So you are thinking I may see some leaks now??

It's hard to say, but I'd hate to see you mount your tires then have issues. You might want to add a "skim coat" of silicone over the seam between the wheel halves before you mount the tires. I know that CCW uses (or used to use) GE silicone, but I don't remember the particular part number off hand.

This isn't a bad idea at all. I'll maybe call up some wheel shops and ask around where I currently stand with this issue, if there is one.

I would definitely put a layer of silicone around the outside seam to reduce the chances of leaking.

Thanks for digging this up for me. Currently on the wheels I can see the CCW installed silicone that was used. Any issues appying a big, mean, thick coat on-top of this already?

I wouldn't think it would be a problem. I would just make sure you completely cover the old stuff so you have a good seal. That's just a guess though.

You don't want to get too crazy with the silicone, because one of the tire's beads has to be able to slide over this part of the wheel, during the mounting process. If the bead is too thick, and the tire hangs up on it, and tears at it, this is how the leaks occur.

Good point. I'll take the wheels to a custom shop and have them look things over. Chances are I'll run a layer over the old seam.

Report back when all is done and the tires have been on for a week. Let us know if it worked.

I just had the rears mounted and there were no leaks that we could find nor see 4hrs later. I couldn't mount the fronts becuase the shop lost my valve stems for all 4 wheels and the place I went to didn't have a stem skinny enough to fit into the front (see my other thread).

I'll give these wheels a week to see how the air-pressure holds, being sure to test the pressure every day...probably every 15 minutes lol.
