c5 auto vs gto
what do you guys think about an auto c5 vs an 05 auto gto?
i am able to find 05s with half the mileage for about the same price as an auto c5 with 60k miles.
is the ls2 a better platform?
just trying to decide if its better to have a newer car with less miles, newer motor, and a back seat.

one of my co-workers has a newer GTO (around 2004 or so).
He's had a lot of problems with it, things like windows not working etc.
I think he is pretty frustrated with it.
Unless your heart is on the GTO, I'd go with the C5.
Frankly I don't like the looks of the GTO, I think it is very blah...

I say stick with the Vette. With power VS weight and the way the Vette is designed it is much more fun.

I had an brand new 05 GTO and sold it for an 00 A4 C5. The 05/06 GTO is not a bad car, just not a fun to drive or to take to a car shows. I picked it up because it had a back seat (I have young 3 kids) and I still decided to sell it and get a C5.
Get the C5 and you'll be happy!

local gto here is an 05 with 30k miles for 14k, or a 99 c5 a4 with 62k miles for 12500.
they both run about the same times stock. buddy of mine tells me with bolt ons and a shot 05 gtos are doing 10.90-11.10s. hows that stack up to the vette?
ahh decisions decisions

Here is my input.
If you need the extra seats the GTO is a fine car, Looks good and fun, But it isn't a Corvette, If you don't need the extra seats you can't beat the Vette, It will in most cases with the driver mod will out perform the GTO, There is nothing like having an America Legend.

If you need a back seat, then your choice is clear - go with the GTO.
Otherwise, get the C5 for a lot more driving fun.

It was red... I wasn't too impressed. If it didn't say "GTO" on it, I would have thought is was a Buick Skylark... LOL
I could see a Cougar MILF driving one though.....
Buy the C5... I sold mine today and got a C6 ZO6. You'll be real happy, trust me....

The cars are distinctly different though. I have a 99 Vette, a good friend of mine has a 05 GTO he bought new. I tell you if I hadn't bought my vette when I did I could have easily ended up in a GTO. The build quality, tightness, lack of rattles, ect, is far and beyond ahead of the C5. But, that's offset by pretty bland looks and sheer weight of the car. FWIW my buddy hasn't had ANY warranty work done to his 05 GTO since buying it new (70K miles currently) and with just simple bolt on's is putting about 380/380 to the ground.
They're good cars, and make awesome daily drivers IMO. Just comes down to personal preference.

The engine isn't the platform you should be worried about. The LS2 is just the evolution of the LS1. It's just a little more cubes with LS6 power.

When I was daily driving my vette, I second guessed myself. Now that it's a pleasure only vehicle, none at all. The ONLY reason I was second guessing myself was because of the amount of time I spent in the car. I was commuting over an hour a day at 25K + miles a year when I bought my Vette (though I only used it as a DD for 3 or so months). The Vette seats, while comfy, pale in comparison to the GTO seats, and the GTO was quieter and better insulated. I had just come out of a Lincoln LS and missed the quietness and comfort level which the GTO would have given me back part of. I just took some time to realize that they're two distinctly different cars and that the Vette was going to have compromises. Once I figured that out, the second guessing when away.
