Default It's Official: NHTSA Recall for Roof Delamination

Not a fix, but a roof skin replacement is now being required by the Feds:

Link:
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/recalls...e&refurl=email

" THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING JANUARY 2010."

Tip:
Print this recall just in case you get a "non-believing" service manager.

2006 was the most impacted year.

The Federal Government never issued a recall for this. It was considered a GM in-house TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) that was mailed to owners for a "repair" or "replacement" if delamination was evident, even though the "flying roofs" could kill/injure other innocent motorists.

I got the notice from the NHTSA last week, thru their E-Mail system. You can sign up for notices for you vehicles on their site.

Is this for the painted roof only, and not the glass top?

I wonder what triggered this?? I haven't seen a rash of CF members reporting new top failures.

My 07 was built with new SMC roof and passed it's inspection a few months ago having just purchased the car pre-owned.

Nice to see NHTSA right on top of things (no pun intended).... Typical it took the govt 3 years to figure out something was wrong with flying tops......

Reading the notice, there is a conflict.

The top of the recall notice says:

CHEVROLET / CORVETTE 2005-2007
CHEVROLET / CORVETTE Z06 2005-2006

The body of the recall notice says:

CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005 THROUGH 2007 CORVETTE AND MODEL YEAR 2006-2007 CORVETTE Z06.

Anyone know which is correct?

I don't think the Z06 was made in 2005. So 2006-2007 is most likely correct.

There was no Z06 in 05 so it's 06-07. The standard C6 model would have to be 05-07 coupe with painted roofs. Does not apply to the clear/smoked roofs....

It also states :"...AND MODEL YEAR 2006-2007 CORVETTE Z06 EQUIPPED WITH A REMOVABLE ROOF" since when has there been a removable roof on the Z06?

These are same type govt morons that want to run our health care system. They've only had 3 years plus to get it right and still can't even figure out the vette models because it's to complicated for them!!

There never was but the non removable (bolted-on) roof that the Z06 has can also delaminate.

The roof on the Z06 was sort of unplanned automatic removal....

I knew about the TSB,but I would have bet money there was a prior recall for this since it's been happening for more then 3 years now.

I'll take your money - no recall was ever issued by NHTSA until now.
