4+3 overdrive filter cheap
FYI, This filter is the same as this one found at autozone for only $9.99 (part # TF-124). Hopefully this saves some time and money for anyone looking to service their overdrive unit.

I picked up a Pro-King FK-111 filter today at Advance Auto for $9. Had to order it at the store yesterday.
Fortunately these filters aren't too hard to come by, but I've been to several Auto Parts stores that didn't stock an FMX filter, so its hit or miss whether they will have one.
Unfortunately, I didn't have a chance to install it today.
Edit: Just pulled it out of the box...wrong filter! Picture on the box looks correct and label also cross references to Fram: FT1024 and ATC: 106011A which should be a brass filter instead of felt. Damn, must've been misboxed by somebody. Looks like another trip to the Auto parts store. Glad I'm not laying on my back, covered in ATF.

yeah, it's funny I went around to 4 different places looking for a 4+3 overdrive filter for an 87 Corvette and people looked at me like I was speaking a foriegn language. Found out it was the same as the Ford FMX auto trans filter and was able to pick it up at Autozone first try.

I was able to pick up another Pro-King FK-111 filter today at another Advance Auto. This one appears to be correct and was a little cheaper. $7 and some change.

The OD filter is the same as the one used in Ford FMX trannies. Here's some other parts numbers:
CarQuest 85926
AC Delco TF-184
FRAM FT1024
NAPA ATP 14717
Ford D0AZ-7A098-A
None of these filters come with the rubber grommet so you have to re-use the old one. You can get grommets from McMaster-Carr They come in a package of 10 for around $12 shipped. The grommet is p/n 9307K53 Push-in Flexible Rubber Grommet, MS 35489-17 AN 931-10-14 5/8" ID, 1 1/8" OD.
Also, when you clean out the pan, make sure the pan rails are straight (use a straight edge) and clean of all old gasket or RTV material. Don't forget to replace the magnet. Same with the rail on the OD case; clean and dry.
A cork gasket is not necessary as a good RTV sealant like The Right Stuff or the MoPar RTV sealant works fine. Run a 1/8" bead of sealant around the pan rails and a full circle around the bolt holes and install the pan immediately. Tighten all the bolt equally to about 6-8 ft-lbs. Refill with Dexron III ATF. I would not use a synthetic ATF in the OD.
