2002 Z06 turns over and then dies
Today after parking my car and coming back to it after 5mins, I went to start the car. The engine turned over to a rough idle, the engine fights to maintain a idle, sounds like misfires with the engine bay rocking greatly. Then after a few seconds the car will die. No codes related to this in the DIC.
Please help if you have any suggestion. The car has plenty of fuel and oil. There was absolutely no warning. It was running perfect and then I went to turn it on and now this. The car has 79,000 miles on it. I have never had any spark plugs changed. Just oil and other fluids.

If it was running just fine before you shut it off then I wouldn't worry about the plugs but I would change them anyway. I would check fuel pressure, you could have lost your fuel pump.I would try and start it again and see if you can get the check engine light to light up, at least that will give you a direction to start in.

Is the fuel pump an expensive replacement? The engine was sputtering like it was low on fuel...I can't get it to spit a check engine light though. Doesn't seem to stay on that long.

Check for some easy stuff.... check to make sure your intake tube is not loose between the MAF and throttle body (this will cause the exact situation you describe). Next you may want to slap a fuel pressure gauge on to see if you are getting adequate pressure prior to startup and after.

That's exactly what they said. Said one of the valves broke in cylinder 3.
They said they need to do a valve job, along with some head work. They're quoting me $3,000-3,500. Does that seem right? They will guarantee the work for 12,000miles or 1 year.
Anyone know of any vette specialists in the east bay area? I'm in San Ramon, CA

Update:
Saw the engine. It's toast. Wondering what to do next. Get a new engine or sell the car as is (I don't have the space/place to part it out).
Anyone know a good deal for a crate engine?

You will get far more money having a good engine in the car. How is it toast? We can all speculate but you should take some pics with the head off and post them up.

The shop said the spring was broken which dropped the valve (intake) onto the cyliner. The flat part had broken off and was no where to be found actually. There are gashes all around the valve on the head and the piston and gouges in it.
All I did was turn on the car and it started making this horrible clunking sound.
