Default Glass top scratches - how to fix??????????

I just got a nice '84 acrylic smoke top from the salvage yard at a decent price.

BUT, as expected, there are a few "pencil thin" scratches on the top.

What is the best way to fix????????????????

Everything in the stores seems to be paint/clearcoat related.

Simonez Fix Up Pro???

Razor sharp Sharpie???

Nu-Finish Scratch Doctor????

Rubbing compound????

I know somebody out there has THE solution!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THANKS in advance.

Search the tech posts, I seem to recall that I saw one in the last year to 18 months that had the procedures with pictures. Involved sanding at progressively finer grits and then polishing.

Found it http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=2020059

For light scratches I've had good results with a product from Mequire's called PlastX.

C4Sailor - thanks for the link - that looks like a serious refinish.

My top is crystal clear - no cracks, no hazing, no delam......

All I am trying to do is remove some LIGHT scratches.

Toptech:

Plastx - wipe on / wipe off???

THANKS.

Yes. and Maguires Mirror Glaze cleaner for heavier scratches. You can also go by the local Fixed Base Operator (FBO) at your local General Aviation Airport and see what they have for use on light aircraft windscreens (plexiglass/lexan). Their mechanics may be able to give you some tips on polishing out the scratches.

My top was scratched bad. I used a 220 grit to smooth it out and worked up to 1000 grit and then polished it out with a 3M rubbing compound and finally a polish. This took hours it does not polish fast. The process is alot like buffing paint only the material is alot tuffer so the results are slower. If the scratches are fine, start with a high grit and go higher. The higher the grit the faster the buffing will be or just use a high speed buffer and compound first to see if you can skip the sanding. Do not stay in one spot to long because of heat and do not use harse cleaners on it. Soapy water works fine.

IMHO, PlastX doesn't work worth a crap on anything - did absolutely nothing on light scratches.

Anybody try Simoniz Fix-It Pro on their tops???????????????

Specifically that "pen" that is advertised like a miracle. https://www.simonizfixit.com/flare/next?tag=os|sm|go "god rest his soul billy"

Looks like Autozone sells 'em for ~ $15.

Thanks Dave H. (trying to do it the "easy" way)

An ultra super fine black Sharpie works GREAT to cover up the scratches!!!! The top looked awesome.

Until you look up from the inside - when it looks like the arm of one of those self mutilating razor fettish's scars
