You could use a 275/40 tire on the narrower wheel, but it would be better to find another pair of 9.5x17 wheels for up front and then run a 275/40 tire. That way you can rotate tires for longer tread life. The 11x17 wheel got a 315/35-17 tire.
The ZR-1 style wheels (at least those for Corvette use) would be 9.5x17 or 11x17. The offset measurement is critical for using 11x17 wheels out back. OEM ZR-1 rear wheels had a 38mm offset. Because the rear of the ZR-1 body was 3" wider than a standard C4, the added body width and offset kept the wheel/tire combo inside the wheelwell. Using the OEM ZR-1 wheel on standard cars will cause the tire to stick out past the wheelwell opening about 1.5 inches.
The 1996 Grand Sport used a 11x17 rear wheel with a 50mm offset. That difference in offset was enough to keep the tire from sticking out. Only the GS coupe got 11x17 wheels in the rear, the 'verts got a 9.5x17 wheel. These wheels are the ZR-1 5-spoke style. There was no factory sawblade wheel for the Grand Sport. The ZR-1 got the 5-spoke wheel in '94.
