I have searched the google out of this. Wondering if anyone has some good pics to share? Also would like a bit of education on these cars? Colors available? Was this just a dealer jazzed up LT1? Whats with the PHASE I II thing? I honestly do not know...(as you can see, so try not to crack my nuts too bad). Very curious.

Here's what I know. Baldwin Chevrolet worked with a local tuner called Motion Performance hence the namd Baldwin-Motion. Joel Rosen was the owner of Motion Performance and worked on Corvettes, Camaro's, Novas etc.

There were several options available. I think all of them had big blocks in them, but the cosmetics were based on owner preference. Cosmetics included in fender headlights (like a 280Z), a hood that is basically a big block hood with a stinger scoop on it, slight fender flares in the rear, a new window that layed back instead of vertical and custom badging.

The paint varied from car to car, but the pics below show your typical paintjob.

Thanks! Was Billy Mitchell the motor builder who now owns World Products in LI NY? I saw a tribute or clone of one the other night and thought it was really cool. This one was Black and White with a White interior.

The cars also had 4.88 gears with a Hone overdrive unit that knocked it down to a 3.42.

I am getting out of my Motion Clone project. I have almost everything to build one but the car. I have the single headlight nose (Motion piece), hood (repro), 4 emblems (Motion), 2 sb and 1 bb Torker, 1 set of Ansen eelco sb valve covers, fly eye air cleaner, traction bar (not Motion), misc decals and lit. I've spent years collecting this stuff and somebody can get it all in one shot for 9k. Not interested in parting anything out at this time. Here's some pix.

No one makes a replica hood anymore. At least not that I have found. I have seen a few replicas pass through ebay when I was looking at making a clone several years back. They ranged from $150-250.

If you want a real one, Joel Rosen still has the molds and will make you one. Last time I emailed him, he said $1500. At the time it was tempting, but I didn't want the motion clone that bad.

You could always make one yourself. Get a big block hood and fill in the front "vents" then graft on a stinger.

4 kinds of cars, in order from most valuble to least

1.) Baldwin Motion Cars 1968 thru 72/3 when baldwin closed, these cars fetch a premium. The came into Baldwin chevrolet as new cars and imediatly went to motion for an upgrade. Most always big blocks, hot-rodded and sold as new.

2.) Motion cars, brand new cars invoiced thru various dealers, same thing, hot-rodded and sold as-new. Regular production ended around the EPA problem in about 74'. But you could still get cars built. I think there are a few very unique cars, 84ish iroc, maybe a cutlass & a dodge. And of course the new 1968? camaros they are putting out today

3.) Customer cars, you could drive your car into motion and get the work done.

4.) Clones, motion put catalogs out. Theoretically a man could buy everything he needed and assymble it in his garage.

Motion cars came in all flavors but by far the camaros are the most common.

Baldwin motion advertised them as the fantastic 5, Camaro Corvette Chevelle Nova...biscane maybe? and latter the vega.

The EPA shut motion down circa 1974 after that your car would get a "not for street use" agreement attatched to it.

Joel Rosen has won alot of races, and best known, in my mind, for the 63/7? KO-Motion corvette.

My 68' has alot of motion flare to it. Unfortunatly Rosen want $1,500 to check his records. Not verify, but just check. I cant take that gamble just yet.

It should be noted that when it came to Corvettes, Motion actually made 3 series in addition to several one offs (since all were built to customers tastes, you could argue all were one offs). The GT with the Phase III being the big dog, the Maco Shark (GM legal made him change the spelling, 3 or 4 made at the shop), and the Spyder (a widebody made as the feds were putting the squeeze on). Although "production" ceased in '74 several more finished cars were built over the years and Joel had a healthy mail order business at that location well into the later '70's (which is why there are still a whole lot more "catalog cars" than those delivered by Baldwin Chevy or Motion's shop).

A slant back rear window and flip up gas lid hardly guarentee a Motion car (Eckler's sold far more of those windows than Motion ever did). And with the steady rise in big block prices since the 80's, you can bet a few were "returned to stock" and all the cool pieces cut off (which is how I got my nose. Was it ever on an original car? Who knows?) But, if you have the traction bars, Dupree fuel pump, Hone-O-drive, Mark 10 or Phase III ignition box, you just might have something (only 3-4 of the Phase III GT's are unaccounted for, so don't get your hopes up). /:\
