Default Riveted compared to bonded parking brake shoes

About 5 years ago I purchased three sets of riveted parking brake
shoes from a leading corvette parts vendor and had them installed
by a shop in a 1979 and two 1980's. In the final adjustment
of the shoes the technician put the cars in drive and
raised the handle to check for drag. One shoe cracked
across two rivets and the broken half wedged against the rotor.

Realized that this was too aggressive
a method to check for drag, but if you needed to use the parking
brake in an emergency the shoes should not crack.
Recently I removed the rotors on another of the cars to check
for drag when readjusting the parking brakes. I noticed another
shoe was cracked across two rivets. The shoe did not have any
wear marks to indicate it was dragging. Shoe looked new in
terms of thickness.

I noticed that some of the shoes being sold are bonded instead of
riveted. Thinking that the bonded ones might be less likely to crack
and a better choice?

Curious.

Sounds more like the shoes have the wrong arc.

I have always used bonded in cars with drum brakes.

yes bonded will not start grinding into the drum until they are almost totally worn out.. unlike riveted... but who has ever worn out their vette emergency brakes? the parts crumble due to corrosion long before the break shoes wear out...

I dont think I've ever seen any bonded shoes. I used to reline them with rivet linings.
