Default TransGo 6L80E transmission research

Hello forum members!

My name is Mark,

I am a R & D technician for TransGo in So El Monte CA. I'm sure that some of you are aware of our products. For those who are not, since 1959 we have been the pioneering leader in engineering & development of Automatic transmission Re Programming Kits. Our primary focus with any transmission is isolate & correct the causes of complaints & premature failure.

At the current time we are looking into the problems that the 6L80E trans is having with 2nd gear. The 6L80E/A6 is the 6 speed auto in the 2006 & later Corvettes. I would also like to hear the drive ability concerns/complaints that you are having. Any data & info you can provide is of great benefit towards this research.

We are searching for Corvette owners who would be willing to participate in our research program. There is no cost to you.

For more information you can contact me at..xcamapuccinelli@yahoo.com

I hope to hear from you soon,

Mark

PS I will be glad to provide technical assistance on your automatic transmissions.

If you contact me @ this link please put a subject title related to your question or problem. I'm getting floods of emails & it will help me keep it organized. Also include your first name so that I may address you properly. I'm still figuring out all the ins & out of the forum. I want to respond to all your questions, If I do not respond to it send a reminder to my email. I would like all questions posted on the forum so that everyone is in the know.

Hi,

I have not heard the 6L80/90E referred to as the A6?

You are referring to the 6 speed automatic correct?

Please clarify.

Thank you, mark

Yes, A6 refers to the 6L80E in the Corvette.

Welcome to the forum! I'm interested in what happens to 2nd gear also. Is it the clutches wearing out because the 1st-2nd shift is the only shift that isn't clutch to clutch? I have the stronger 6L90E with the wider gears for 2nd and am curious if they also increased the number of friction disc in the clutch drum.

We refer to it as the A6, since that is what GM call's it.
If you need any info, I would be glad to help.

Welcome to Corvette Forum Mark. And I am sending you an email.
I have a '93 ZR-1...my daughter has a '99 coupe, my older brother has an '06 coupe (A6), and my little brother has an '09 coupe (A6). My 6L90 is in an '07 3500 dually cab/chassis I'll be using to haul my ZR-1 to races. I wish I knew how to put a 6L90 in a C6 though, it is one sweet transmission and much better (as far as shift quality) than the 6L80 in my brothers 'Vettes. It has a "button" shifter mounted on the column shifter that operates much like the "paddle" shifters on the 'Vettes with the exception that the shifts are immediate with zero lag and all shifts are firm/quick whether in auto or manual mode. In the "tow" mode, it holds a gear longer on part throttle acceleration and anticipates/performs a needed downshift. Hopefully, somebody will be able to figure out how to accomodate the 35mm longer 6L90 in place of the 6L80...the 6L90 from the CTS-V with the dual plate torque converter clutch would be perfect!

Welcome aboard and glad to see someone working to better the A6. Any plans to do a heavy duty build? (650+ TQ output)? FWIW, I'm curious to hear about the "clutch failures" in 2nd on these trans. We've read about the seals that leak, causing a "flare" in 2nd and sometimes 3rd and 4th.

Seal problems are rare with OE transmissions unless it's a high mileage problem or extreme hi temp conditions.

Time will tell,

thank you, Mark
